Utter domination by the Breds tonight in Independence. Nikki Kiernan goes for 36. NewCath was in control of this one from start to finish, although Simon Kenton was starting to make a run in the 3rd. Breds had a 11 pt. lead, when SK scores 6 straight, however Stephanie Lewis thwarts any thought of a comeback with 2 huge treys from opposite corners on back to back possessions and that was it. The Breds extend the led to 20 on a 7pt. play by Kiernan, as she is fouled on a shot and the SK player gets a "T" for using "colorful" language. Kiernan makes all 4 FT's and then buries a trey. On the night the Breds had to hit at least 10 3's.

I'm so confused. NCC beats Simom Kenton by 22 and Brossart by 10 but loses to Highlands by 5 who lost to Brossart by 15 and nda gets beat pretty bad by Holmes . Obviously there is little rhyme or reason to what's going on here no wonder I had no clue about Highlands and NCC game. Can I be blamed the top 5 are interchangeable daily.

Did SK play man-to-man D? I'm guessing they did since Ms Kiernan had 36.

 

What was wrong with Jamie's gameplan that other coaches didn't like?

Simon Kenton (13-3) -- Owings 15, Jones 2, Hester 11, Krohman 4, Cox 3, Meier 8, Tomlin 6, Webb 1.

 

The Breds were hitting their 3's. Davenport, Seibert, & Mayes....all field goals were 3's. Lewis had at least two, maybe 3. Kiernan had at least 5.

 

The Breds could have had at least another 10 to 12 points on lay-ups/point blank shots that were missed.

 

They did an excellent job in transition, and finding the open player for the easy deuce.

It's all about matchups and not comparative scores.

I agree. It's tough. I'm not totally surprised by this one...other than the margin of victory.

 

I will tell you that HHS played about as bad as they can play against Brossart and had two key players in foul trouble most of the game. I'm not saying that Brossart didn't play well and that was the reason HHS didn't... I have no idea. But I do know that the HHS girls are very eager for the Brossart rematch because they feel that was one that they didn't have their best game. Doesn't mean it couldn't be the same result, they are just eager to play that one again.

 

It just says that there is a lot of parity in NKY. More than most expected. Including me!

 

HHS plays ND tonight. Who knows what happens in this game. I'm sure ND will be eager to get a W after their loss the other night. ND's size and length are not a good matchup for the Birds, but I know they'll do their best to overcome that.

It seem that all the offense went through Owings for Simon Kenton. (Which she can flat out play and I like her toughness and not afraid to take it to the basket). However, outside of her, the offense really didn't seem to have a lot of direction. I thought the coach for Simon Kenton was a little early on taking all the starters out with about 6:30 left to go in the game, but I think he knew it was not their night. One other thing that was interesting was the varsity rooster for Simon is all Seniors, only 1 Jr. and the rest freshman. Not sure if other Jr. and Soph. are playing JV.

I saw the roster too. I think they have a couple JRs listed incorrectly. I know of at least two that are listed on KHSAA as seniors that are actually JRs. There may be more because I think that class was pretty strong.

From what I've heard, no one has played a zone more than a couple minutes...other than HHS. Everyone has come out of it and HHS never did. Everyone says "well, they were hitting 3's". Well they did hit 5 3's to O against HHS and they never changed. It was about knowing who the shooters are and who to jump out at and who not to. And you have to stick to it because if you don't, you'll get Kiernaned!

It's going to be very difficult to beat NCC when they hit 10 3's in a game no matter what defense you are in. Tough to guard the perimeter and Kiernan.

 

Owings has a huge heart and I felt like she tried to put her team on her back last night. I was surprised that SK's offense didn't involve their big girls at all.

 

Obviously Kiernan had an unbelievable performance, but Ware also had a great game. Offenses better be alert of where's she's at all the time or she's going to steal the ball from you.

You are 100%correct on Michaela Ware, her ability to bring the ball up the floor is the driving force behind the offense. and her quickness on defense is more than above average. she was by far the quickest player and fastest player on the court last night great job Michaela.
