I probably shouldn't do this preview bc I am not aware of excatly what they have coming back but what the heck!

 

They lose a class of seniors that started approx 750 games in their 6 year career. Last years team was avg at best. Could be a long year for the Indians. Its kind of been that year throughout the sports dept in Latonia.

 

They return Sr pitcher Anna Clement (sp?) who had a fine year. She is probably in the best of the rest group. She's not one of the top pitchers but she holds her own. She made a huge jump from Soph year to Jr year, a lot may have had to do with having one of the best catchers in the area back behind the plate in Grace Herrman.

 

Sr Kristen Stanley should return to play first base and has a lot of experience.

 

Freshman Courtney Turner would probably be the favorite to play SS and this will be her 3rd year playing varsity softball. Turner would need to have a monster year for HC to compete.

Didnt they get a transfer from Holmes? Or am I thinking of the wrong girl? I think she transferred for hoops but she is a decent little softball player too. Cant remember the name.

Yes they did she is very good SS, but she should have to sit a year.

HC ALWAYS gets transfers just not for softball, and not a pitcher like the schools I like to talk about. I think I know the player in question and she will help but my guess is they still lose every game to the top 10 and most of them by the run rule fashion.

I think Holy Cross will be just fine. Their pitcher has improved and the little gal from Holmes will help. Not every high school player is a D1 player. BTW, I think the Indians coaching is above average for the region too, and I have nobody involved in the program.

I hope your right, they have a chance bc of the pitching but still could be a struggle.

 

Their coach is a fine man and its really not my place to bash anymore but you either have no clue what your talking about or just trying to get me fired up...

I think she is a year behind my daughter...who was a freshman last year. But I could be wrong.

Pretty fair assessment by the OP....pitching will be a key factor as always. Not much margain for error. They lost a ton of experience and leadership.

 

I've not been around the team much yet this year so I'm not as familiar with the new faces coming in. I do know that there are a lot of young players joining the team so it bodes well for the future.

 

From what I do know...

I would agree that Turner will likely start at SS, although circumstances may dictate that she move around a bit. We'll see. She has a good glove and arm. No one's really worked a lot with her on footwork at SS so her range is a little suspect, but she will make plays on balls hit at her.

 

Offensively, the team may struggle. Just not enough up and down the order to consistently score runs.

 

The transfer from Holmes, Tucker (?) is a freshmen this year and I don't believe will have to sit out. I've not seen her play but she is a good athlete and will surely help. Small, quick.. probably a slap hitter... could see her leading off.

 

I don't believe Stanley is able to play. She's had a lot of injuries and I believe was advised to sit out. Gabbard's not returning either.... Those two would have added some nice pop in the lineup. Turner has shown some flashes at the plate... actually made pretty good progress last year but is still probably a year or two away from consistently being able to put up the numbers they will need.

 

Should be fun to watch them grow as a team though.
