True. I think an instruction to officials to watch things like 5 seconds "closely" in situations like this would do just as well.

Shouldn't they be watching the 5 second call closely anyway? I like seeing good defense rewarded.

I think you missed the purpose of my post.

It's not like it's easy to stall. These teams who might consider it do so for a reason - they're outmatched. That same reason is why it's difficult to stall. D with bigger and better athletes turns up the heat and forces the stalling team to get going.

It's why I had no sympathy for NDA a few years ago when Highlands decided to hold the ball. NDA LET them hold the ball. It almost bit them in the rear end.

Clyde is "spot on" here. I just talked with the HC for Heritage Academy girls, who will most likely be facing NewCath's in the All "A" Regional. He said he is going to play "stall ball" when they play.........my response, "that's not going to happen", because of the bolded.

I'm still trying to get my money back from that fiasco. :lol2: However, I don't have a problem with a team doing what they feel is their best chance to pull off a victory. It may be "painful" to have to watch, but so be it.

I spoke with a dad from Canada this week while at a Christmas tourney and he told me they have a 24 second clock in high school. Needless to say they were having trouble adjusting to no clock. I would like to see a 35 or 40 second clock. I don't think it would change most games a whole lot but would help prepare those players who are moving on to the next level and make some games more exciting.

I would imagine KHSAA has discussed it, don't know if they studied it. Is NY the only state that has it? I would look very hard at doing it because I think it would be good for the game. This is not a major change that would effect in any way the quality of basketball in the state. The cost and training of clock specialists would not be as prohibitive as I believe some on here think. I say go for it.

I don't see how holding the ball is in any way good for the game.
