I don't. Zimmer is too good of a DC, I want him to stay at that position. What good would it be to let our best DC become HC? How did that work out for Marvin? Who will coach our defense as good as Zimmer?

 

He'll eventually become a head coach somewhere. I would rather keep him with the Bengals than lose him to some other organization.

Collapse or not, who would ever consider coming to Cincinnati and tolerate Mike Brown unless part of the deal was more autonomy? If Zimmer became HC, I'd predict his tenure would be short lived much like Dick LeBeau, example of a defensive coordinator who didn't necessarily translate well to the HC spot.

 

Yes, Marvin has his shortcomings. How many head coaches in the league are stellar on a consistent basis? The ones that are, are very well taken care of and are paid a lot of $$$ to remain loyal to their current employer.

 

We may have to just be happy with being a playoff contender/pretender, win 9-11 games and lose in the first round. This seems to be the trend. So who do you think, other than Zimmer, would provide the necessary leadership to increase the chances of deep playoff runs?

Because Zimmer will be a head coach next year either here or somewhere else.

I have heard he doesn't pull punches which is a big reason I like him so much.

His players love him because although he tells it like it is, he also always has their backs.

I'd say Coughlin, Gruden (jon) or Schottenheimer would be a good start.
