Anyone else watch these states play, on TV or on the net?

 

I haven't, but I did catch some of the Florida 8A game with Apopka vs. South Dade Saturday evening.

 

I'm a fan of Apopka and their coach Rick Darlington. Here they are in what you could arguably say is the toughest class, in the best state of high school football and he runs the oldest scheme known to man; literally what football was built around, the Single Wing (the definition of old school football).

 

Granted he and his program have morphed into other things, but their base is the Single Wing. His son, who is going to Nebraska as a QB was injured in their first game of the year vs. Byrnes (SC) on ESPN. They had been more of a traditional spread team with him, that game and the previous two years, but once he went down for the season, Darlington and Apopka went back to the Wing.

 

Fun stuff to watch. I think South Dade ended up winning, though.

Louisiana still playing too.

Watch some Texas and Louisiana games when they are on. Louisiana has some good ones still going on (as of last week at least... I think I caught it on ESPNU).

The reason I have the Directv sports package. Love watching those games.

I follow Illinois football, too. Nine regular season games, no bye weeks and the Championsip games Thanksgiving weekend. I've grown to like it. Especially, the live television coverage.

Yea... those scenes on Friday Night Lights and shows like that where these small towns shut down for the football game, those are pretty accurate from what I've seen.

 

Drove to a school in an area that looked like it didn't have a lot going on and drive up to a packed out stadium and turf field.

I think there is only one team in this state that runs the single wing as their primary offense...its a good offense...Specially in a state where air raid is the primary offense of choice.

I remember Harrodsburg running it.
