Are things changing in Ky HS football?

I fully expect us to dominate again, if not next season, for the 3-4 after that.

Traditional powers aren't going anywhere but titles will be more of a challenge. That's not a bad thing.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that after 2014 several teams will be in a different class. Makes the predictions a little trickier. For example, will Mayfield enjoy success? Well might depend on if they are in 2A and if NCC, Beechwood, Desales, Somerset are in 2A or if none of them are in 2A.

Mayfield enjoyed success in 2A long before they ever got in 1A and that was with just 4 classes.

Can't argue with the numbers of Mayfield's recent success, however it is noticeable how the recent success is since 2008. The year after NCC went to 2A. I hope if Mayfield is bumped up that they're on the opposite side of the bracket. If Desales and Cal are gone they really need to be. No question though that without Mayfield or maybe even Beechwood in 1A it will be very lacking. Already looking forward to a potential NCC/Mayfield matchup.

NCC will be 1A again soon. Whether it's an official "feeder school" or not, all Catholic grade schools are shrinking fast.

NCC had very little effect on Mayfield prior to 2009. 2006 being the exception. Danville was more a thorn in there side than NCC. It could also be argued that NCC has had there best 4-5 yr run ever since they moved up to 2a without Beechwood and Mayfield in there. Actually NCC has had better success in 2a all the way around, prior to going to 1a and then after being bumped back up to 2a. How would NCCs recent success have been had Mayfield and Beechwood been in the same class with them? I'd say it would likely have been a factor in both Mayfield and NCCs recent runs.

Definitely true on them effecting each other. Should make for awesome matchups in the future.

Much better success than during Yeagle's reign of terror. Nobody in the state (except for Mayfield) had success against him. They were probably the best team in the state in '97.

At the end of NewCath's run at 1A, they were back-to-back state champs. 2007 and 2008 would have been very, very interesting w/ not having to have played Ft. Campbell (or being able to tackle Andrews on a last secon TD pass.) Those two teams were more dynamic than the '06 team, but not at the level of '05 whose O & D lines were incredibly good. '09 they wouldn't have made it out of the region. '10 would have been a very, very good game. '11 we couldn't get past Holy Cross, or Beechwood. '12 would have been tough due to how good Mayfield was. This year, I'm not sure. I didn't get to watch any football outside of a few NewCath games and had to go to all of Highlands' games. I'm not saying that NewCath would have been the only power in 1A, but I will say that they still had the chance at sitting at 2 additional titles like they are right now.

I think they would have won the title in 2007 and 2008 had they been in 1A, unfortunately they weren't and ran into a crazy good Fort Campbell team that went on a 3 peat. 2010 would have been an awesome game, 2012 I would have given the edge to Mayfield however. 2011 may have been interesting; not really sure. NCC did lose to HC and BW, but no doubt they played their worst game against HC, and Hightchew got hurt in the 1st half of that BW game and sat out the rest of that game. Definitely an intriguing "what if" situation.

Please tell us.

Collins is a product of the split of Shelby Co into two schools. The lines used to divide the county are the same ones used for the two middle schools. Through the history of Shelby co a vast majority of the players that made up the team came from what would become Collins school district. Until the past 10 years or so Shelby co could compete with many of the best teams in the state. There were years that of the 10 games 7 or so were against teams ranked in the top 10 regardless of class. It was tradition at Shelby co to play T and X twice as freshman. Shelby co had a very strong football history until the past 10 years or so.

Shelby co also has it's own self contained youth league much like HHS does. It's a 4 team league and is often coached by former players. The middle school systems are much the same.

So just on the surface you have taken the Shelby co football team and moved them down a classification or two. Past that you have a strong group if people in the county that football truly means something. Competing against the best means something. You now have a coach in place (who has ties to the history of the county on his coaching staff) who has putting it all together.

I've said a few times on here if Collins could get things in order they would be one of the top programs. That was shore up the defense some (in their brief history they have been able to score) and get the players to do what they need to in the offseason. Collins will always have the talent.
