Should the KHSAA explore replay review for the State Finals?

Featured Replies

It has not directly cost anyone a State Championship but should the KHSAA explore replay review for the State Finals?

Maybe some sort of replay review of all turnovers and scores like the NFL? Maybe allow coaches challenges similar to the NFL?

Or maybe just utilize it like the NCAA does where every play is automatically reviewed.

Consider that it is 2013 and the technology does easily exist and will only be easier in years to come. And it would not add any duties to the high school refs on the field other than to stop the game when told.

And the first week of December there would be several NCAA review officials available since there are just a few NCAA games.

Thoughts?

NO NO NO NO NO.

If it's not available for the regular season then it shouldn't even be considered for the championships.

If you want to change something about the championships make them install high school width goal posts.

Why are you so opposed? Didn't basketball go from 2 officials to a mandatory 3 officials for post season play?

And as you mentioned the FG posts are smaller than in the regular season in football. (not sure why someone has not invented an adjustable FG crossbar. There are also many media timeouts that do not exist in the regular season or any other playoff games.

Because replays can have a direct impact on the outcome of the game none of the other things you mentioned do.

That would be the idea. To make sure the correct call was made. Do you not like replay at NCAA games.

Not the way they do it, no.

Well I can understand that the NCAA way might be excessive but with all the technology it seems to me that if I were a ref I might welcome the thought of replay in the Finals because I do not want a blown call by my crew to alter a State Championship game.

Anyone want to change their mind now that it likely did cost a team the State Championship?

Until the technology is available to do it every game like it is in the NFL and college then it shouldn't happen in the championship game. To revisit what I said there let's pretend that replay was available and the call had been overturned and Meade had won the game. Good for Meade, but what if the same play happened in the semi-finals or in the first round for that matter. Would the season be any less over for the team that the call went against? I'm not opposed to replays, I'm opposed to replays for just the finals.

Before going to replays how about getting some solid, full time integrated college crews in to officiate. Officials have to work together to be an effective team. And teams get better over time. Calls are sometimes missed because of a crew who is not at its peak efficiency in terms of team work because they do not work together on a full time basis.

Only if replay is done in every game throughout the season.

Why? Obviously there is a cost factor that means it cannot be done for every game. So why not do it for the Finals where it can be done?

I assume you also do not want the best refs working the State Finals because that crew would not be available to do every game in the regular season? Should we just have a random draw for refs so that a first year line judge that has done 10 varsity games gets to work a final?
