Yes. We do have some injuries so we will be short 2 or 3 kids.

All 3 starters so we will just do best we can and see what happens. I hope there are more teams than previous years. Very fun event when alot of teams enter. We will have those kids ready for nationals. We can go have a little vacation and play some ball in the process. great group of parents to travel with.

We always play d1. Yes almost all are 14u. We have alot of kids probably 6 of the 10 that have the may thru july birthdays but in the 7th grade and 13 years old now bt have to play 14u. Most have played up most their lives anyway. I like the new rule

Other than the D1, D2, and D3 state tournaments at KBA I'm not seeing many/any other AAU competitions in Ky., and plenty of tournaments without the AAU age restrictions.

I think AAU did the right thing with the age requirement. But, the August 31 date makes NO since. I think it should have been February 31 or March 31. There are tons of kids that were very immature as a 5 year old and held out of school unitl 6. Now they are small 7th graders having to play against 8th graders.

There is also a Bearcat Showcase tournament the last weekend of March. This is a similar event as the classic but it is for the little guys. I'm planning to have my 2nd grade group play in it.

Agreed. The date makes no sense. KBA told me this week that the Ky Playmakers and a couple other programs want to have a 7U tournament and asked if I could put a 7U team together. I have 3 legit 7U players and I have two kids that will be 8 on August 31. They are literally a few hours too old. But what makes ZERO sense is that the kids will play the entire AAU season at 7 years old. Then two and a half months will pass and then they will turn 8. But yet, they are too old to play 7U. The date should be February 31. These two kids are also my smallest two players. They are not even in the top half of my team.

 

The rule change overall is good. But, it kills kids that were born in summer months.

 

I wonder if I could petition the AAU and get these kids approved.

No I tried it with a kid that had august 27th birthday and was turned down. Which I assumed I would be but heck worth a try.

It is definately worth a try. Otherwise the 7U age group wont be able to play. I never considered it until they asked me to put a team in.

 

As a coach, I would not have a problem with playing against these kids. As good as the new age requirement is, it still hurts the smaller late maturing kids. It nearly takes them out of the game completley.
