What Changes Would You Make To AAU?
jimmy chitwood70 replied to JokersWild24's topic in AAU / Select / Club / Travel Sports
At AAU 2nd grade nationals we played against a Florida team that had a 11 year old on it. Protests were filed by 3 different teams but because the AAU committee has to judge violations the decision came after nationals were over. AAU is very corrupt/money oriented. -
My sons 2nd grade aau team beat defending national champs marylands finest 41-13 and the New York gauchos 51-6 before losing to the eventual champs by 2 points at the king James classic in Akron this past weekend. Also saw the 6th grade ky playmakers make an impressive run thru the gold division before falling in the semis.

KBA consistently has the worst refs anywhere we play. About 1 out of 3 games will be called well. You just never know what to expect. During the state tourney we nearly got hosed because one of the refs had a grandson playing. After 4 phantom calls some of our parents informed us of this and it was addressed(but should have never happened to begin with). Legitimately you have maybe 6 people who can call and the rest have no business being on the floor. I actually had a ref ask me a tourney their this year if I wanted it "called loose or aggressive". How the heck do you respond to that, lol? I wish their was somewhere closer than Mid-America in Lville to play on a consistent basis to give KBA a run(and yes Mid-Americas refs are better). Last year during the league play at KBA my son was kicked in the face after the play was already whistled. Ref(young black hair chubby man with glasses) said it looked like it was accidental, lol.

The ashland heat are the best passing team I've seen 2nd grade wise in kentucky. Their Achilles that I saw was a lack of size(we finished runner up and played them 3 times). I'm still trying to figure out how the focus beat them earlier in the year. My sons national team beat the focus 47 to 6 so I know that while they are good they are not very good, lol. I've saw several teams from Indy and Ohio that I think would beat the heat pretty easy(again no size in my opinion) . Nothing against them though, hands down best in ky this year.

100% no 4th graders on that team. The coachs son(3rd) plays up with the 4th grade and the 3rd. My son(2nd) plays with the 3rd and the 2nd. The kids on that 3rd team are 8 or 9 years old. Everyone gets confused because during the seasonal tourneys their our teams always play up a grade. We actually had our kids bring birth certificates because the previous weekend a team from Louisville complained about us playing up and then playing down in state. I watched the royals game(went to overtime I think, they were bigger--we were a lot quicker). The royals have a great team. My sons AAU national team plays a tourney in Cincy with a team from your area raiderbird, the Northern KY tigers(2nd grade)--any scouting info you'd care to share, lol. Thanks

Yeah we were pretty disappointed with it as well. They lumped the 2nd thru 5th graders all together. Their is a huge physical maturity difference between those age groups. While my son held his own against the 4th/5th graders they eventually beat him up physically. That will be our last trip to the buckeye prep showcase(at least until we're in the 5th grade, lol)
