Kentucky Grade School and AAU Basketball
Not familiar with the swoosh but the Whitley 3rd last year were middle of the pack. If you got good refs they will foul out but bad refs you are going to get mugged. Although most of their kids were holdbacks last year(if KBA uses new rules and enforces....)Just my opionion, no hate mail please lol

What Changes Would You Make To AAU?
At AAU 2nd grade nationals we played against a Florida team that had a 11 year old on it. Protests were filed by 3 different teams but because the AAU committee has to judge violations the decision came after nationals were over. AAU is very corrupt/money oriented.

My sons Indiana aau team won the 2nd grade Indiana state championship today. Nothing like him wearing his uk gear into Indy and winning state lol. It was awesome!

Kentucky Grade School and AAU Basketball
My sons 2nd grade aau team beat defending national champs marylands finest 41-13 and the New York gauchos 51-6 before losing to the eventual champs by 2 points at the king James classic in Akron this past weekend. Also saw the 6th grade ky playmakers make an impressive run thru the gold division before falling in the semis.

We beat the Ohio hoopsters 45 to 17 and the St. Louis starboyz 37 to 25. The starboyz were later dq for having kids in the 4th grade, lol. Now getting ready for the lebron classic in Akron.

KBA consistently has the worst refs anywhere we play. About 1 out of 3 games will be called well. You just never know what to expect. During the state tourney we nearly got hosed because one of the refs had a grandson playing. After 4 phantom calls some of our parents informed us of this and it was addressed(but should have never happened to begin with). Legitimately you have maybe 6 people who can call and the rest have no business being on the floor. I actually had a ref ask me a tourney their this year if I wanted it "called loose or aggressive". How the heck do you respond to that, lol? I wish their was somewhere closer than Mid-America in Lville to play on a consistent basis to give KBA a run(and yes Mid-Americas refs are better). Last year during the league play at KBA my son was kicked in the face after the play was already whistled. Ref(young black hair chubby man with glasses) said it looked like it was accidental, lol.

The ashland heat are the best passing team I've seen 2nd grade wise in kentucky. Their Achilles that I saw was a lack of size(we finished runner up and played them 3 times). I'm still trying to figure out how the focus beat them earlier in the year. My sons national team beat the focus 47 to 6 so I know that while they are good they are not very good, lol. I've saw several teams from Indy and Ohio that I think would beat the heat pretty easy(again no size in my opinion) . Nothing against them though, hands down best in ky this year.

Looks like the Bulls may have been suited for D2, while they won the D2 championship they struggled all 4 games on sunday(although I didn't get to watch them, I heard they was some weak officiating in their 2 point win over the Shooters). Congrats on the championship.

100% no 4th graders on that team. The coachs son(3rd) plays up with the 4th grade and the 3rd. My son(2nd) plays with the 3rd and the 2nd. The kids on that 3rd team are 8 or 9 years old. Everyone gets confused because during the seasonal tourneys their our teams always play up a grade. We actually had our kids bring birth certificates because the previous weekend a team from Louisville complained about us playing up and then playing down in state. I watched the royals game(went to overtime I think, they were bigger--we were a lot quicker). The royals have a great team. My sons AAU national team plays a tourney in Cincy with a team from your area raiderbird, the Northern KY tigers(2nd grade)--any scouting info you'd care to share, lol. Thanks

Yeah we were pretty disappointed with it as well. They lumped the 2nd thru 5th graders all together. Their is a huge physical maturity difference between those age groups. While my son held his own against the 4th/5th graders they eventually beat him up physically. That will be our last trip to the buckeye prep showcase(at least until we're in the 5th grade, lol)

No joke, KY Yank, that's why the thread is for Grade school not middle school. Believe it or not they actually have a 2nd grade national championship.

My sons 2nd grade AAU team played in Louisville this weekend and played a Shelbyville and Louisville(who had won 27 in a row)teams and won 59-8 and 47-6. We are heading to Cincy for a 2nd grade tourney at the end of March. Any 2nd grade teams to be on the lookout for? Thanks for any input.

Has anyone North received an invite or heard of the buckeye prep showcase? My son received an invite and I've checked out the website but wondering about the legitimacy of it especially for the younger kids. Thanks.

Good tourney at the KBA this past weekend, although the competition was a little below normal. Its amazing how the referees up their vary so much from game to game, lol. Absolutely no consistency. Looks like everyone is gearing up for the state tourneys, good luck all.

Inside the 13th Region 1-6-13
Hey Les, during your downtime(yes I know theirs not much downtime at this time of the year)when you look at the "stars in the making" what about article on the middle school travel teams. You've got 3 of the best in the state in the local area. Micah Engle(4th grade) in Corbin is one of the best pure point guards I've seen in a long while. Reed Sheppard in London(3rd grade) is a dominant point guard that can't be stopped from getting to the basket at will, and Jordan Mabe(2nd grade)who plays every position on the floor for his team normally has every player on opposing teams guarding him. These 3 kids have all played at the KBA in Lexington against older kids and usually come out on top. Once Taylor and these other guys graduate, these kids will be the next "stars" in the 13th region. Again just a thought for a slow day, love your threads and work in the paper-keep it up.

Good tourney at the KBA over the weekend. A couple of out of state teams were there. Playmakers 3rd/4th combo team won the 4th grade division and the 1st/2nd team made it to the finals of the 2nd grade. Anyone out their familiar with the INDIANA INGOUISA AAU team? They are wanting my son to play with them in a tourney in Columbus Ohio and I'm trying to get a little info. Their coach is Eric Jackson. Any of you folks in Northern Ky heard of them? Thanks for any info.

Kentucky Grade School and AAU Basketball
Nice 2nd grade tourney at the KBA tomorrow with 6 teams involved although I've heard that the Estill Co team has pulled out. Wonder If its because they found out that we were playing our best 2nd graders tomorrow instead of playing them up, lol. Scores to follow. Sorry Manny but we're in London, Ky but playing a couple tourneys in NKY. Good luck with your search, though.

Kentucky Grade School and AAU Basketball
We've got a couple of Tourneys scheduled in January in Northern Ky. Hopefully they'll be a lot of teams involved and we can get a sense of where our kids are developmentally against some good competition. We just came from a tourney in Tenn and they play on 8ft goals and move the free throw line in 2 feet. We played normal sizes and distances and either won/competed in each game but the talent was not their for the other teams involved. Post your league results on this thread and I'll do the same with ours. Good luck to your teams.

Kentucky Grade School and AAU Basketball
Do a lot of the teams up in NKy play up in the leagues and tourneys, raiderbird? Down in central and southern Ky it seems like most do but I know that when we(playmakers)go away for tourneys the teams always play their own age group and we usually get hammered by older kids. We went back to KBA this past weekend and played OK. Again the best 5 kids in each age played up a grader or two, so we had mixed results. I believe that we are coming to NKY for tourney early next year-I'll be looking for a scouting report, lol.
