He put his resignation out on the list-serve. Their facilities are OUTSTANDING. However...there is much to overcome in MC.

Hays Browning gets my vote. Current assistant, and was the head coach at Webster County in 2011. From Muhlenberg County and someone who has had years experience under some of the best coaches in the state in Mark Peach at Anderson County as an assistant, and also with Paul Rains while at LCA.

 

He walked into a firestorm at Webster County, and I know they didn't do so well in his only year as the HC there, but Nick Saban himself wouldn't have faired any better.

 

Hays is already an assistant there and in the building. He's a true student of the game, every side of the ball and every position.

 

Definitely my pick to get the job.

He has something else lined up after Christmas. Not exactly sure the position or the school, but it's still in education. Just a better opportunity at the moment for Standiford; he'll continue to stay in the game at some facet.

Depends on the definition of success, with them being 6A...I don't see them doing in the post season, but regular seasons like they had this year or better, sure.

 

Sad fact is, it's a community that hasn't cared one bit about football....ever. Everybody thinks they are gonna be the next Patrick Sparks (from there). It's kind of odd that they have never had any kind of success in the past, not even before North and south merged...bc it's a community wedged bt Owensboro, Madisonville and Hoptown/Christian County where football is and always will be king.

 

If anybody could change the mindset there, it's Hays.

In 3 or 4 years it could be a good county school. The 6 wins this year go way beyond the history the program has had. Coaching isn't the only reason the place has been that way. Browning has been a really good coordinator everywhere he has been and given time and support he could do things there that have never been done. For example his first year on the staff they gave up 44 points per game. This year they cut it to 26 ppg. Changing momentum at places takes time.

Madisonville and Hoptown/Christian County where football is and always will be king.

Harry, as much as I hate to ever disagree with you, my friend, Football is in no way King in Hoptown or Madisonville. Basketball will always come first at both of those schools.

They play a very week schedule. It is hard for them to build a program from the bottom up, but that is what the next coach is looking at. They will have to excite the kids in the county toward football, and then wait for those kids to get to high school. Although I believe this could be done, it will be very hard, and playoff success would be defined by winning A game, 1 playoff win could bring in the kids to the program/

Browning is from there, lives there now, mom and dad and wifes mom and dad live there. Just had 2nd baby. Not going to be a stepping stone for him if he gets it.

They need to continue to play a weak schedule and see how many consecutive winning seasons they can put together. All the while getting the feeder in order.
