New Classification possibility

A lot of casual fans could attend since it is typically a holiday weekend. They are not as likely to attend if their school is not playing.

Lot of people are out of town visiting family that weekend also.

How would it be fair to Scott County this year to say well you survived Trinity, Male, St. X ....how about you beat Bowling Green and Highlands too? Meanwhile, Mayfield eliminates Murray, Caldwell Co, Desales etc. and wins 2A. How is that fair? Meanwhile, the team that Mayfield replaced in 2A drops down to 1A and beats Frankfort after Frankfort eliminated Beechwood.

If your the 6A champ you should be able to beat any school in the state.

Lowest ranked team in 2a dropping down a class isn't going to beat anybody in 1a.

It is not the lowest ranked teams that drops down. It is the school with the lowest enrollment.

Every time a team moves up a class some team would have to move down. That is done by moving the lowest enrollment school down.

OK then maybe some times a decent team would move down one class but they wouldn't necessarily be world beaters moving down. In the case of Mayfield moving up Bishop Brossart would be the team moving down. Smallest 3a team that would move down if someone moved up would be Heath, 4a would be Lex Cath or Taylor Co (Figuring Highlands the smallest 4A would have moved up), smallest 5a would be Perry or Shelby Co and the smallest 6a team would be Fern Creek. The only one that would have an advantage in that list is Maybe Lex Cath...as for the rest none of the teams moving down would present much trouble to their new class.

People complain about 6 classes being too many, but, if they went back to 4, there'd be some crossover from 2a, back to 1a, 3a back to 2a, etc. so while it's true that the smaller schools would have to play a few bigger schools, it's not like your going from playing a Lynn Camp to playing a Scott Co., you'd be playing a school with just a few more kids than you're playing now.

I like Jumper Dads idea, also. Teams in a particular class having to move up a class if they are dominating the one they've been in. Use a 4 year average and some sort of point system to determine who moves up. In Tennessee, they do this. Maryville and Riverdale used to be in smaller classes, but, are now competing in 6a, the biggest class, not because of extra enrollment, but, because of production on the field. Alcoa was a 2a school, they now play in 3a for the same reason. Honestly, I think the teams that would be candidates to move up like Highlands, BGreen, Central and a few others, would welcome that challenge.

Exactly.

If you want to be the 6A champ, then you should welcome all oncomers. If you want to be considered the best in the state.

I like the proposal someone posted else where that would move dominant teams up to the next class after repeated years of high performance. Let teams play themselves up to stronger and stronger competition.

With current streak they are on under that plan; Central would be up to 4a or 5a, Highlands and Bowling Green would be up to 6a, Mayfield to 2a or 3a and NCC to 3a or 4a. Deep runs in the playoffs would allow a team to get enough points to move up also meaning a team like Somerset would be up to at least 3A and Belfry would be at least to 4A for example.

How would enrollment flux impact that though?

Say Belfry earns enough points competing in 3A to move up to 4A... but simultaneously their enrollment declines to the point they are now technically a 2A school... do they then move back to 3A? Or are they now a 2A school competing in 4A?

Not sure, like I said one of the states does this...I didn't look at it close enough to answer that question. I'd guess in that case they would go up one class from where they should be which would keep them at the same class.
