Now why would they do that to Joey, it would upset Joey, and an upset unhappy Joey is not what this team wants.

2 years too late...

Depending on the amount of $$, he'd be an absolute homerun of a signing...

Agree, but it would upset Joey as he wouldnt be the star anymore, and we cant have that.

What are you talking about? Do you follow baseball at all? Votto is clearly the better player of the two.

Last story I saw listed five teams -- all American League teams -- as the leaders in the Beltran bidding. I can't see him staying in the N.L. He's going to need to DH to get two more years out of his aging and fragile body.

The link above says Beltran would prefer to stay in the NL. They list 6 AL teams as teams interested in him and no NL teams other than the Reds.

Question for everyone - can Jay Bruce play CF every day? Maybe Hamilton turns out to be the man in CF, but I am not sure about that. If not Hamilton, do they look at Bruce in CF? If Choo did it, I think Bruce could do it.

The link in the original post says that his preference is to play in the NL....:idunno:

I'm not sure why you're so quick to write Hamilton off before he's ever gotten an opportunity...

I am not writing him off at all. However, I have heard and read more than a couple people say he is still a year away.

If Hamilton is in CF, then Ludwick becomes an awful expensive bench player.

Ludwick is an awfully expensive bench player regardless of who's in CF.

Are you doubting Hamilton in CF defensively or are you talking about at the plate?

If that were the case, then why not just stay with Cards? I suspect some of this is a bit of a ploy to extract a better offer from an A.L. team. Matheny did a nice job of knowing when to give Carlos days off, but I'm not so sure he could expect same from another N.L. manager. Some talk of K.C. being where he ends up.

Maybe the Cards don't want to pay him? They went out and addressed SS and CF already, thus making retaining Beltran not nearly as important.
