RIP sportsmanship. I'm sure Sacred Heart did "everything they could" to avoid running up the score...

I thought soccer games ended when the score went to 10-0. Is that not a playoff rule?

Has to go (I think) one minute into the second half.

F) Mercy Rule Provisions

1) If one team has a 10 goal lead at the end of the fi rst half or at

any point in the second half, the match will be terminated.

2) This rule is to be observed in regular and postseason play

Those 2 statements would appear to be in conflict with each other. In soccer 1 goal is like a TD in football. 18-0 in soccer is like winning a football game 126-0. Nobody would allow that to happen in a football game, and it shouldn't' have happened here.

Rule is it has to go at least a half. So those were scores at half time

 

It is the old argument. What is more degrading. Scoring with subs or passing it around and making the team chase you. Seems as if a combination of the two should be put in place by the coach. I have seem some teams go to head ball goals only.

 

With that said. If they kept the starters in then it is an issue

No they didn't run up the score. They scored 18 and 15 against a team that had lost the other regular season games by an average of 6-0. 18 and 15 is... well... running up the score.

No it is not. One of the games was a 1-0 forfeit loss. They also lost 14-0 to a team that was 9-12 on a not tough schedule. And 10-0 a couple of times.

 

If you are intent on playing a district playoff game.......and you only schedule and play 10 regular season games......on you only have 12 players ........then what do you want other teams to do. Stand there and kick the ball out of bounds constantly? You can decline to participate in the post season and you do not have to play a district schedule. But if you want to participate then I would think you would want to play at least a half where you can learn something.

I'm not judging right or wrong, but to say it isn't running it up, especially when they could have stopped scoring at 10 and had the same outcome, isn't accurate.

I disagree. If they wanted to run it up it would have been 30-0. Or 40-0. Again how embarrassing is it to the opposition to not attempt a goal? Or take a knee on first down? Or stand at half court dribbling the ball and then letting the opposition miss lay-up after lay-up? This game did not have to be played. But if you elect to play one of the best teams in the state, I don't see much difference between losing 15-0 and 14-0 and 10-0.

Anything over 10-0 is running it up because you only needed 10.
