October 14, 201312 yr This is an idea that's kind of out there, but it's a thought that just crossed my mind when thinking about the national championship possibilities, etc. No matter which you choose, give a reason why you would choose them and rank them in order of what you would prefer to see. To determine the BCS National Championship this year, would you rather see: Scenario 1: The BCS system that's in place work itself out as it will this year with no changes? Scenario 2: A single elimination tournament with all of the SEC teams participating. No other teams get in (i.e., an undefeated Oregon wouldn't have a shot at the BCS title, even if they were undefeated)? Under Scenario 2, the tournament would be seeded, and would play out one of two ways (state your preference in the comments). SEC-A: Under this scenario, the first and second round games would be played at the home site of the higher seeded team. The semi finals would be played at the New Orleans Superdome, and the Finals would be played at the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium. SEC-B: Under this scenario, the first and second round games would be played at the home site of the higher seeded team. The semi finals would be played at New Orleans' Superdome and Nashville's LP Field (or Jacksonville's Everbank Field); if the highest seeded team does not have a team seeded equal to them, they would have first choice on where the game was played, but if two teams were equal (i.e., the West 1 and East 1 were in the semis), then the West would play in New Orleans and the East would play in Nashville/Jacksonville. The finals would be played in the Georgia Dome.
October 14, 201312 yr Kind of out there? Go home SEC, you're drunk. There are about 50 team that deserve a shot at a BCS title before the bottom feeders in this conference. I wanna see an 8 team playoff. It gives enough room to allow for 1-loss teams, yet leaves a chance for those undefeated outlier conference types (Boise, Utah in prior years) a chance as well.

No doubt that teams at the bottom of the SEC don't deserve a shot, but could you really see a team like Kentucky or Arkansas stringing together the games needed to win it? I know it's ideal that we see an 8 team playoff, but the scenario presented doesn't offer that option.
October 14, 201312 yr No doubt that teams at the bottom of the SEC don't deserve a shot, but could you really see a team like Kentucky or Arkansas stringing together the games needed to win it? Then what's the point of playing the extra games?
October 14, 201312 yr And to answer the question at hand is simple: Scenario 1. Quite a bit of SEC arrogance leaking through on this idea... The bottom half of both divisions in the SEC don't deserve a shot at a title any more than any other teams in America.

No, UK and Arkansas wouldn't run the table to win, but you're saying they deserve a chance over Oregon, FSU, Clemson, etc. No way.
October 14, 201312 yr Author No, UK and Arkansas wouldn't run the table to win, but you're saying they deserve a chance over Oregon, FSU, Clemson, etc. No way. Not saying they deserve the chance at all. Just asking which one users would rather watch.
October 14, 201312 yr Author And to be honest, I'm definitely siding with Scenario 1. I'd rather watch an SEC tournament play out, but Scenario 1 is definitely the most fair way.
October 14, 201312 yr If there is an 8-team playoff, then teams 9-12 will all complain. If there's a 16-team playoff, then 17-20 will complain. I say set it up as the 8 best SEC teams vs. the 8 best remaining teams and then let it play out...which would give us SEC vs. SEC in the title game anyways.
October 14, 201312 yr So when the SEC is no longer top dog, they don't automatically get 8 teams, right?
October 14, 201312 yr So when the SEC is no longer top dog, they don't automatically get 8 teams, right? Yeah, but who are we kidding....That's not going to happen anytime soon.
October 14, 201312 yr If we do the top 8 SEC and the top 8 non SEC, based on today's AP poll, the playoff would look something like this.... SEC seeds 1) Alabama 2) LSU 3) Texas A&M 4) South Carolina 5) Missouri 6) Georgia 7) Florida 8) Auburn Non-SEC Teams 1) Oregon 2) Clemson 3) Ohio State 4) Florida State 5) Louisville 6) UCLA 7) Miami (FL) 8) Baylor That would get us the top bracket of: 1) Alabama 8) Baylor 4) Florida State 5) Missouri 3) Texas A&M 6) UCLA 2) Clemson 7) Florida Bottom bracket of: 1) Oregon 8) Auburn 4) South Carolina 5) Louisville 3) Ohio State 6) Georgia 2) LSU 7) Miami (FL) That would be awesome TV.
October 14, 201312 yr Wow, how compelling would that be. All of those games would be very fun to watch.
October 14, 201312 yr I'd really be looking forward to the Oregon vs. South Carolina game in the quarterfinals.
