Newport Central Catholic "Powder-Puff" Classic 2013 Edition

Featured Replies

Just because the NewCath boys were off on friday night doesn't mean there wasn't Breds football action. The annual Jr's vs. Sr's girls "Powder-Puff" game was held before a sellout crowd up on the "hill". The Senior team was under the command of field general Mac Franzen, while the Junior squad was under the direction of Drew McDonald.

1st half action saw the seniors get on the board first as Stephanie Lewis finds (and hears :lol2:) Taylor Burkart behind the defense for a 25 yd TD, the xpt was no good, and it's 6-0. That's all the scoring in the 1st half has both teams were having difficulties with some the coaches play calling. :sssh:

The 2nd half opens has Jr. Micheala Ware evades everyone for a 70 yd TD run on the 1st play and Loren Zimmerman's xpt gives the Jr's a 7-6 lead. Later Sr. Chandler Cain scoops up a fumble and goes 2 yds for the score and Lydia Stuttler connects with Taylor Burkart for the 2pt conversion and the Sr's take a 14-7 lead. However, on the next Jr. possession Loren Zimmerman hooks up with the speedy Micheala Ware for a 60 yd TD pass, but the xpt is blocked by Sr. Stephanie Lewis, and the seniors maintain a one point lead at 14-13. Both teams threaten to score, but the Sr's turn it over on downs deep in Jr. territory and the Jr's are stymied by a INT. Unfortunately my camera battery dies with two plays remaining, and on the final play of the game Sr. Taylor Burkart recovers a botched handoff and returns it untouched 60 yds for the final score of the game and a Seniors victory of 20-13.

Sorry my camera work isn't the best, I'm a rookie at this.

Seniors 06-14--20

Juniors 00-13--13

1st half

Seniors - Lewis 25 yd TD pass to Burkart (kick failed)

2nd half

Juniors - Ware 70 yd TD run (Zimmerman kick)

Seniors - Cain 2 yd TD fumble recovery (Stuttler pass to Burkart)

Juniors - Zimmerman 60 yd TD pass to Ware (kick blocked)

Seniors - Burkart 60 yd TD fumble recovery

Simon Kenton girls want "no part" of these Breds. :sssh::D

Love traditions like this.

SK cheerleaders usually do push ups every time SK scores. Their 60 deep roster will be to much for the Breds!

That Junior kicker is better than most varsity teams have. Great job, LB13!

How'd you not put the 60yd fumble return on here? :lol2:

Also, I am betting Taylor is daddy's little girl, LB. I am sure you are so proud of her. :thumb:

 So very true, plus she is a soccer player (hoops and softball also).

Yes sir, she had a blast playing.

These games are fun but dangerous imo.

When you mix athletes with non=athletes especially with the females it can spell trouble.

My daughter had two girls high low her only to tear her MCL and miss her Sr Soccer season...

I just dont understand what was going on, my daughters team was up 56 pts and she was still playing QB, I dont know what Donovan McCoy was thinking...Just sayin LOL

Glad there were no injuries as I know the money raised goes to a great cause:thumb:

Sometimes great players don't make great coaches. :lol2:

I believe the money raised this year went to the (Jessica) Hightchew Scholarship Fund. :thumb:
