Lots of rumors floating around Specht and his departure from St. X. That coupled with a lack of college experience will prevent him from being the head coach, though I could see him landing on the staff. Combs would be a great hire.

Heard a very interesting rumor today from some GCL insiders. Their saying that Steve Specht and Kerry Combs maybe candidates for the HC at Miami. Very interesting if true.

 

I'm 99% sure you'll see a older, veteran, former "big time" head coach hired at Miami. Think something along the lines of Frank Solich at Ohio University. While I think Specht and or Combs may be candidates to be on staff, I think the AD will go the direction I have laid out.

I am not a mind-reader and don't know what FanofMany33 is referring to, but I'd say the biggest thing he has done has raised money / interest to have Millette Hall re-done. It is as outdated as a "Brady Bunch" episode, and the changes / renovations they will make after this year will be a huge improvement.

I think they need to find a way to move the hockey team to Millet Hall and the basketball games be played at Cady Arena. Then you will have your facilities aligned with demand. The football program is really bad. I am going up to the game on Tuesday night with my son on a recruiting visit. We will be 2 of the 25 people at the game:)

I'm speaking of his fund raising campaigns and drive to improve all athletic programs that are sub par at Miami. Hockey isn't going anywhere, however they are adding on to Goggin arena for some top notch amenities. There's movement already for the indoor football practice facility, sot this new AD is not just sitting on a position, I think he's building a resume for his next big move as well.

I agree that the football program is really bad and needs some major work. I'm glad to hear that your son still shows interest because this Redhawk team does have some young talent on the roster. The right coach/system will show the results, it just may take a year or two or three.

You're more impressed with him than I am, but I agree that he is resume' building for his next gig.

This AD has his hands full....man....his two non-niche revenue generating sports (allegedly) are as bad as they can be. The John Cooper hire was dumb, especially with three of the finalists having roots within two hours of campus. Now the football is reaching Prairie View standards and their hoops program is atrocious.

LOl..So true! Quite a few of the women's programs and other men's programs outside of Hockey are being successful, so hopefully he can focus on these two. Brad Bates made some BAD decisions and then jumped ship to Boston College. But I believe the new AD can turn this around if he has the financial backing from the BOT.

Any chance of Joker Phillips getting an offer? Could he possibly be better in the MAC. The new AD at Miami is serious about fund raising an attracting coaches to build all sports programs back to a respectable level or above.

 

One of the new assistant ADs there is Coleman Barnes, who is a Nelson County native and played at UK as a long-snapper. He is there specifically in charge of fundraising.
