Russell losing a player?

Featured Replies

Most likely from disgruntled parents whose kids have quit or are not good enough to play.

More than likely, that is generally the case when there are problems. Same thing happens at Boyd too.

I wouldn't take this as a "locked" scenario. I wouldn't be suprised to see him suited back up in a couple of days. Didn't something similar happen last year???

You never can tell when it comes to kids and their attitudes these days.

All I know is that there is a conflict and it appears that the Red Devils will no longer have Kasey Clark the remainder of the season! This was his decision that h thought was best for him personally and the team! It also allows him to concentrate on Football which is his bread and butter sport!!

If Kasey is back today, is he not concentrating on football?

well, in my opinion, if he has quit, then it would be a hard day for him to come back. When you walk out on your team mates, you don't just come back a couple days later and say, sorry guys, changed my mind. The damage has already been done.

As a coach, I don't think you can let a kid do that to the program no matter how good he is.

From the standpoint of Clark, it is obvious to everyone with a pair of functional eyes that football is the sport that gives him the best opportunity to play at the next level - so focusing his efforts on that sport only makes long term sense.

From the standpoint of the team, if a player is unhappy (for whatever reason) and chooses to hang it up, then the team will have to adjust. Will it make the team better or worse? Only time can tell us the answer to that one, but it is certain that losing an athlete of Clark's caliber isn't an easy thing to overcome.

I'm not sure where the speculation comes from that Clark might return (and I have absolutely no idea as to how true it might be), but like Play 2 Win, I don't think it's a simple matter to just show up and say "Okay, I'm ready to play". In all likelihood, that isn't going to happen anyway (just my uninformed opinion).

The real question now is - what does Dodd do to fill the minutes and role that previously went to Clark? I know that early in the season, the Maddux kid had a couple of solid games, but he hasn't seemed to get much time lately. I think a couple of the kids that were being hyped prior to the start of the season haven't really played to their level. I watched the AIT, and I thought Turner played well, but I haven't seen Russell since, and I have no idea how he has been playing of late. Gill seems to have exceeded most expectations, and lived up to the uppermost hopes that most had for him.

It would appear that the preseason basketball tab (The Dodd Squad) is going to struggle mightily from here, in their pursuit of either a district or regional crown.

Thats all fine and dandy, but if you feel this way in your heart then don't come out for the team. And if you do come out, gut it out and play the entire season and don't quit with 2 weeks left.

It sounds more like a kid giving up a sport that he doesn't enjoy anymore.

Then why be on the team most of the season! The time to quit is at the end of the season not in the home stretch!

:thumb: This is only a drag on the team. It brings negative attention to the team, causes the players and coaches to make adjustments, and can even cause other players to wonder about commitment and faith in the team!

I personally don't think any player, in any sport, should quit or be allowed to quit by their parents during the course of a season.Obviously there could be exceptions- if a player was treated in a criminal manner, grades, etc. but for the most part excuses such as "can't get along with the coach", "just a difference of opinions", or any of the variety of the reasons that seem to come up are not acceptable. Tough it out and don't come out the following year- don't compromise your work ethic and the team. This is my view on all cases such as these not just this individual instance!

"Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."

It is easy to say to not let a kid quit, but you also run the risk of it being an even more negative attitude around the team if the kid stays and is unhappy. Either way it has a damaging effect on the team, but in this case maybe it was better for the team to just walk away.

If Kasey were my son, and had a future in football like he does, why risk injury during basketball season? He needs to be in the weightroom concentrating on football AND his future.

Who is this?

A 16th region hoops coach? ;)

Nope not a coach. But I can appreciate your humor.

If that were the case you should never even start the season. And if you worry about getting hurt, that is when it will happen. You can blow out an ACL just walking down the steps at home, would you have them removed if your son was a star athlete??
