I don't think a team has ever gone an entire season without giving up a single point. Sorry Highlands fans, but that does give you a goal to shoot for.

 

Does South Warren have a shot at accomplishing this feat? South Warren's defense is pitching a shutout for the season with wins over Warren East (35-0), Logan County (50-0) and Greenwood (38-0). The Spartans face a much improved Elizabethtown team at home this week and they have to play Monroe County and Russellville on the road at the end of the season.

 

There is no way they can continue to be perfect for the entire regular season, is there?

The answer is of course, yes. I believe they will give some up on Friday in fact. I would say that if they so desired that they'd have a good chance of keeping the next four opponents after E-Town off the scoreboard. I think Monroe and Russellville will both score.

 

As to who will beat them, a much easier question. NO ONE. Not until third round of the playoffs at the earliest.

This streak could end by a team in a lopsided game leaving their first team offense on the field against South Warren's 2nd team.

Ok will South give up any points this year? In all likelihood yes they will give up points at some point. Last year they had a shutout going against Caverna and the freshmen and Soph. were in and threw an interception that was returned for a TD final of that game was 42-6. Also last year Todd Central scored off of a broken play and the final of that game was 30 - 6. So the possibilities of giving up points are great at some point. There are to many things that can happen. The most likely opponents to score on them are E-town, Monroe County and Russellville. But anyone can score at any given time.

 

I think a better question is are they going to hold teams to minus rushing yards for the season? Through the first three games it is -108 rushing yards. They have given up 138 passing yards so the total yards given up through the first three weeks is 30 yards.

 

The counter to that is Coach Nelson and Coach Smith have them playing real well at this point in the season and as long as they keep them focused on the goals that have been set they will be OK.

Don't know if it's a record, but Bowling Green allowed only 30 points in 10 regular season games in 1990, 40 overall. 14 of those were given up to Ohio County in a 55-14 win. I can't prove those points came against backups, but I'm pretty sure....
