Somerset off to an 0-2 start, can they get their season turned around?

The Jumper fans were hoping that with the recent success from the Jumpers over the past few years that it would carry over to 2013 but that wasn’t meant to be so far. In the first two games the Jumpers have been blown out.

Somerset opened it’s season at home in the Ray Corell Bowl hosting Pulaski County. Pulaski County rolled past the Jumpers 41-13.

Somerset made the long haul to Pikeville to take on the Belfry Pirates in the Community Trust Pike County Bowl. Belfry jumped out to a 7-0 lead thanks to a 2 yard touchdown run by Trenity Carr. Somerset would answer with a 61 yard run by Jordan Doan, Somerset missed the extra point kick making the score 7-6 Belfry going into the second quarter.

Somerset would strike first in the second quarter on an 18 yard pass from Castle Hatcher to Jordan Doan, the Jumpers would yet again miss the extra point kick but that touchdown gave Somerset the lead 12-7, which would be the only lead of the night for the Jumpers. Belfry came right back and scored on a 5 yard touchdown run by Trenity Carr, that would give Belfry the lead back at 14-12 going into the halftime.

Belfry would be the only team to score in the second half and they got started by a safety due to Intentional grounding by the Somerset quarterback, that would put Belfry up 16-12. Belfry would add another touchdown on a 5 yard run by quarterback Sani Warren, that would put Belfry up 23-12 going into the last quarter.

Belfry would strike early as the Pirates put up yet another touchdown, this time it was a 46 yard run by freshmen running back, Andrew Fletcher, that would put the score out of reach at 30-12. Belfry would put the final nail in the Somerset coffin by adding a 35 yard touchdown run putting the Pirates up 37-12 which would be the final score.

Even tho the season just started it looks like the Jumpers are in for a long season and it doesn’t get any easier, as the Jumpers will travel down the road to face rival Southwestern in the Don Marshall Bowl this Friday. The Jumpers will then travel to Hazard to take on the Bulldogs next Friday. The Jumpers will return home on September 20th to face Glasgow, a team that split the past two seasons with. Glasgow won 14-7 in 2011. Somerset won 20-0 last season. Somerset will then travel to Whitesburg to face newly head coach Mike Holcomb and his Letcher County Central Cougars. Somerset will have it’s buy week on October 4th but after that they will get back to work by taking on Danville in the Briar Patch. Somerset will travel to Lexington to take on the Lexington Christian Eagles on October 18 and to end the season the Jumpers will be home on senior night hosting Middlesboro.

There is hope that the Jumpers can get their season turned around but the question is can the Jumpers get it turned around?

I think Somerset will win 3 of the next 4.

They have another weapon, but he hasn't seen the field yet...hopefully he'll get out there soon! Alos have a pretty solid weapon at WR, but you got to get the ball to him.

Somerset will be fine...pretty positive almost every 2A team would 0-2 against Pulaski and Belfry
