Way Back When: (1991) Lou. Holy Cross 15, Trinity 14

To me, yes. Male was the big dog in town at that time. I think it had been four YEARS since Trinity had even scored on Male. It was a big deal to beat them. The city champion was expected to win the state title, so to me, yes.

In 1968 the city champ was expected to win state or was that the general expectation in the late 60's/early 70's?

In general, that was the expectation every year. Seneca pulled the upset over Flaget in 65. Butler beat Trinity in 70 and Thomas Jefferson tied Flaget in 71. Other than that, the city champ won all of the 3A titles under the old set up.

I could be way off on this but I think Trinity won its first statewide championship in approximately 1974 against Henderson County. I believe the score was like 28-24. Again I could be wrong, but I don't think the Shamrocks have eve lost a championship game to a team from outside Jefferson County.

You're correct that T won a state title 28-24 ( believe that was also the half time score) but that was '76 ( in commonwealth stadium) & Henderson co sounds right as well, then greenup co @ the fairgrounds, in '77 if memory serves...

If I remember right, thats a big IF..... Trinity was marching and had the ball inside the 10 with 4th down and less than just a few seconds left on the clock. 4th down pass into endzone was incomplete. Place went crazy!!!!! Now for bonus points, what was the final?
