Boyle County Bowl/Pigskin Classic

Featured Replies

I thought they were on separate days. Can someone give me the schedule for these games? I'm so confused.

Nevermind. They are on the same day. Friday. That sucks.

I was still confused up until Friday. I probably asked Central's coaches around 10 times over the past month when it was. I just knew I'd show up in Boyle County on Friday and find out it was the next day.

Don't quote me but I believe the original intention was to play the Danville bowl on Friday and Boyle on Saturday. After the announcement of the UK game for Saturday night, the Boyle bowl was also moved to Friday.

Again, I could be wrong, but I think that's what happened.

Makes sense to me!

That's weak though. I'm going to pay 40 bucks for 2 games at two different stadiums instead of 40 bucks for 4 games at two different stadiums on two different days because of a measley UK football game that each stadium would provide updates for?

GO TOPPERS!!!!!!!!

Agreed (except on the Toppers part). It seems like Boyle and Danville went out of their way a couple years ago to make sure they scheduled against each other. I remember the articles in the paper saying everything but. Perhaps it was some competitive residue from the Will Dunn situation a few years back, but it seemed petty and childish. What's sad is both bowls do a great job of bringing in local teams. This year you have Garrard, Lincoln, Mercer and Bourbon (top notch team; coached by Garrard grad and former Boyle coach), along with top-tier out in the state teams like Warren Central and Glasgow. Why not make it a point to schedule on both nights? You're guaranteed to make more money than you would on one night.

I think you will find that it was just the opposite. The Boyle Bowl was always scheduled for Friday and I think The Danville Pigskin Classic for Saturday. I can understand the change completely. No school in their right mind would go up against the KY - Western game unless they want to play to an empty stadium.

That's not what this article from the Danville paper in March said:

Vaught's Views: Bob Allen Pigskin Classic will now be played on Friday - Central Kentucky News

New Danville football coach Clay Clevenger likes the tradition and success of the Bob Allen Pigskin Classic. However, he’s making one change to the annual bowl that he thinks will be good for his program — and area football fans.

Instead of playing on Saturday night, he’s moving the Bob Allen Pigskin Classic to Friday. This year’s games — Danville vs. Mercer County and Glasgow vs. Garrard County — will now be on Aug. 30 and not Aug. 31.

“I like playing the traditional Friday nights,” said Clevenger, a former Danville all-state lineman who recently was named Sam Harp’s successor at Danville. “I like the routine of it. You are in school that day and don’t have to have kids sitting around all day (on Saturday) and wondering what they are doing or not doing.

Moving the game also avoids a conflict with the Stuart Powell Bowl at Boyle County that is set for Aug. 31.

I'll be looking for you, DF. Let me know where I can find you.

Wherever Warren Central's filming area is, that's where I'll be. I've never been to the stadium, so I don't know where that is yet!
