Holmes 2013/2014

Will Bolden be better??? He was pretty darn good last year. I guess he could be more consistent with his 20 and 30 pt efforts :thumb:, but I don't see how he gets much better at his size. And, when I say that, I mean, he is really, really good for his size. I agree 1 player can make a big difference in HS, but will Markel be taking the ball out of Boldens hands??? Sounds like the chatter on here leads me to believe so. They lose a lot with Englemon.

McClendon isn't taking the ball out of Bolden's hands. Bolden is still the PG and will handle the ball. Markel simply gives them an added option, much like Palmer last year.

Nobody has said that McClendon and Bolden are on a whole other level? Both have their flaws like any other high school kid. I simply stated my opinion that with all the tangibles, they are the best duo in NKY and ONE OF the BETTER ones in the state. Markel is top 10-15 in the state for his class and Bolden is arguably the best in that same class that I said Pangallo should be listed in the 11-20 range.

Considering the type of talent that Bolden went up against this summer playing on the EYBL circuit, I like his odds against ANYONE in the region. Playing against future NBA guys goes a long way in the development of a kid both physically and mentally. I can promise Shining Stars saw no where near the competition that Bolden saw this summer.

True. But, we weren't talking about JUST bolden, we were talking about he PAIR. Backcourt TANDEM. I always give Bolden his due. Excellent player.

And, I do not believe that McClendon is top 10-15 for his class in the state. Maybe 20-30 range.

First and foremost, You made my point by talking about McClendon with HC. Basically THE "options" were older McC and Campbell. Neither as hyped as Bolden. To say that pounce, Tiberius, and Gabbard would have gotten more time at other HS tells me only that the 3 options at HC were Campbell, And the McC boys. HC wasn't very deep last year, and also not "really" good. They were good, not great.

According to you, this Holmes team is going to be loaded with depth, and Bolden will lead the 9th in scoring and will be a top scorer in the state. Some have stated that Bolden is a great "pure" pg, of which Markel plays the same position. So, if Bolden is a leading scorer, the Holmes PG, and Holmes is loaded with depth, where does Markel fit in? Not saying he doesn't, just don't see him being the same third option that he was at HC. At Holmes, Bolden is THE option. Markel may be the 2nd option some nights, or the 8th option. Just don't see why Markel is getting soooo much hype from you. He is a real nice player, a good player, but to say that Bolden and McClendon will be a leading backcourt in the state implies that the pair, or tandem of two guys is REALLY good, when really it's just Bolden that is that good and will carry his team.

And, I'm not selling Holmes short. I never said they were overhyped as a team. We've been talking about individual play. I think Holmes will be top 2 in the region. Think NCC has a better overall starting 5, but Holmes has a very good team. Booher has proven to be a phenomenal coach.

As for Jackson, and Holbrook, not saying they are as good as Bolden, just saying they will be a good "tandem" in nKY as far as working together. Depending on each other. Option 1, and option 2 for their team.

Of course Markel wasn't "THE" option at Holy Cross last year. Most freshmen aren't, especially when you have a D1 forward averaging close to a triple double and senior that has been seeing varsity time since his 8th grade year on the court with you. And I never said Tiberi, Pouncy, and Gabbard would've gotten more time at other schools. I said they would have saw a lot of time at other schools in nky as well...implying they were solid players. Tiberi and Pouncy were starters.

Loaded with depth is a bit of an overstatement by me, probably. Better than most teams' option in the region up and down the roster, I feel confident in saying that. Coach Booher usually plays a lot of guys early then settles on a 7 or 8 man rotation late in the season. The sophomore class is going to be special. The JV team that won the championship last year was basically the then frosh with Herndon, Glover, Hill, and Pouncy.

As far as how McClendon fits in, he doesn't have to be the third option every night. That's the big difference between Holmes and Holy Cross. They can be successful with him as the leading scorer or not scoring a point at all. Defense wins games and one of the biggest strengths of his game is on that end of the court. The coaching staff will tell you the same. That is why he will likely start in his first year. The kid gets after it on defense. If you don't think he is as good as I'm hyping him to be, that's fine but you are in for a big surprise when you see them together this year. Have you even seen them this summer to form this opinion?

What you're failing to realize is how much better Bolden makes everyone around him. Notice how many times in the above video he sets his teammates up for easy baskets or open looks. Yes this is Bolden's team...but he has plenty of options if his shot isn't falling. He scored 2 pts against Elder over the summer and Holmes still won by 10+ because of Glover's outside shooting. He didn't play well against Boone but Markel had 16 which led to a close win. My point is, I don't see why there are so many questions about Markel. The kid has proven himself against the best competition in the state. Switching programs isn't going to change anything. If anything, playing at Holmes helps him because of the athletes around him that allow for a different style that wasn't seen or used at Holy Cross.

And as far as other teams go, you should know from my other posts that I think very highly of Dixie and Newcath. Have stated time and time again Newcath has the best starting 5 but unproven depth. Dixie could end up being the most complete team in the region top to bottom because of the size they will have.. Holmes has the most individual talent top to bottom, IMO.

Remember that these are just my opinions. Doesn't make them right or wrong. I could be completely wrong with all of my observations.

Pangallo didn't play AAU at all,,,,so again, the TANDEM saw no where near what Bolden saw playing EYBL and McClendon with Jarron Cumberland and OBC.

That's your opinion and that's fine with me.

I ask this though....How many kids outside of the top 5-10 in his class are going to average 11 ppg against the schedule Holy Cross played last year? Not too many freshmen guards around the state that are going to put 16 on the backcourt of Kenjah Bosley and Dominique Hawkins.

Was he inconsistent at times? Sure. But you can't deny that the kid is talented and can play with the best of them in his class. Numbers don't lie.

Walter, do you think with all of this depth, athleticism & quickness that Coach Booher will likely be pressing from start to finish, or just pick his spots. I know he likes to press when he feels he has the team to do so, and this sounds like that kind of team.

When I saw them over the summer they pressed a lot and tried to push the tempo off missed shots. The key for them will be scoring and being able to set up the press.

Really!!!! NewCath has "open gym" at 8:00 next Monday come take a look see, it's open for anyone to watch. Tonight I watched what might be the starting five, McDonald, Schulte, Pangallo, and both Moeves boys hang with Ronnie Dawn Jr., Michael Bueter, Jake Giesler, NKU point guard (sorry didn't get his name). These guys are practicing against quite a few D1 players every week (Johnson brothers from Holmes, Giesler and members of NKU' s team, George Fant (WKU) to name a few. I think the Moeves brothers will have zero problem playing in the 9th.

I will agree on the "any given night", it certainly will be a fun season.

The Breds are who we thought they were.....You wanna crown em LB13 go ahead. :jump:

Nothing against the NCC players at all as they are very good but IMO they are not at the same level. Moeves is going to have to adjust to the play in this region on a regular basis

My response to Mr. Sixer mentions nothing about "crowning".

Holmes is going to be the best team in the 9th. The doubters are convincing themselves!

Both Holmes and Newcath will be VERY GOOD.

Holmes will have the best player in the region in James Bolden but Newcath's starting 5 is going to be tough. I was impressed with what I saw in the open gym Monday night at Newcath. Looking forward to seeing the Holmes kids against them again next Monday.

Who will Holmes have coming off the bench? Who do you think will have a deeper bench between Holmes and New Cath?

Don't want to turn this in to a Newcath v Holmes thread so I will stay away from the Newcath comments.

As far as Holmes goes, I see them going 10 deep on any given night.

Avery, Glover, Herndon, Arnold, and Greene will see regular minutes off the bench. I think by season's end, guys like Moore and Brolley will also see an increased role off the bench. Have heard both Moore and Brolley have really had strong summers and improved a lot during Holmes workouts and summer ball.

Holmes just has so many guys this year that it's tough to predict how the PT will be spread around. I just mentioned 12 guys without listing Seniors Mikekale Jeffries and Zach Pouncy or junior Jason Covington.

Definetly not a bad problem for Coach Booher to have to deal with. You can never have too much depth.
