Former Beechwood head coach Bernie Barre will be honored at Wyoming High in Cincinnati where he used to be the head coach.

 

Wyoming will name the field at Bob Lewis Stadium after Bernie. I had the honor of playing for Bob Lewis and against Bernie.

 

Congrats to Bernie.

I went to Reading and am familiar with his career at Wyoming but not with his time at Beechwood. Did he win state championships there?

I believe Bernie won in 1984 with BW.

Had he stayed at BW for his entire coaching career one could only wonder what kind of numbers he would have put up...

Good ole Bernie!!! He was coach at Beechwood my entire time there. I think the reason he left Beechwood was because I graduated :ohbrother:

 

Yes, as Sweeperboy stated, Bernie Barre won state at Beechwood in 1984 with the schools first State Title. They went undefeated that year, a year after I graduated.....just missed it lol.

 

Some of his assistants back in the day when he coached Beechwood are still there, such as one of the best guys in the world Coach Prococinno, or aka Mr Jim, who was one of the assistants in the NKY all star game just a couple months ago.

Coach Barre should have something named after him at Beechwood no doubt.

How about Edgar McNabb Field in Bernie Barre Stadium at Mike Yeagle Athletic Complex?

I like Bernie, I was there when he first came to coach. He inherited a team that had made it to the state finals the year before and had won over 30 games in the prior 3 years so the cupboard wasn't bare when he started. He did take that start and built a very nice program and laid the framework for Mike Yeagle to take it to the next level. Still, I don't think he deserves something named after him. I'd leave it to Mr. McNabb and Mike Yeagle. If Beechwood has a HOF he deserves to be in it.

I love me some Bernie Barre, he is a great man and was an awesome football coach.

 

I have said this before but it is worth repeating, I learned so much from Bernie, I was fortunate enough to have him as a teacher, coach, superior, mentor, and most of all a friend.

 

 

Remember when!? This was the 1990 Beechwood High School Football Coaching Staff. Starting top left Ray “Spahny” Spahn, The Legendary Mike Yeagle, Our Fearless Leader Head Coach Bernie Barre, and the looks of the operation, Rob Bacigalupo. Bottom left the one, the only, the Beloved Jim “Mr. Jim” Procaccino, Kevin “crack me up” Siple, and the best friend any man could ever have Matt Bohmer sporting the Guns!

I always thought Coach Barre was a great coach, but it always made me wonder if Beechwood would of had the success they had if he didn't turn the reigns over to Mike Yeagle. There is no doubting the success and genius of Yeagle as a coach, but I am not sure they would have had the same success under Coach Barre.

 

With that said, it was Bernie Barre who built that program to where it is today. Every succesful team can look back to one person who put in the time sweat and heartache that helps a team turn the corner and Beechwood imo would be nothing if it wasn't for the time that Bernie Barre put into that school and team.

 

He was always so different on and off the field. Off the field he was always so quiet, reserved, even as a teacher. On the field you could tell he felt at home. Great coach and he deserves all the accolades he gets.

I was at Beechwood when Bernie and Mr. Jim were student teachers. I remember the girls talking about "who was most handsome." Both men are pure class.

 

My brother was on the 84 team that won Beechwood's first state title. I remember it like it was yesterday.

 

Bernie is a great man in all respects. Congratulations to him for this much deserved honor.
