9th Region Pre-Season Rankings Teams and Players

Featured Replies

After speaking with a couple of coaches I suggest you add Cov Cath as a team that worries some folks as a potential spoiler to Holmes or New Cath's trip to Rupp.

I think NCC and Holmes are 1-2 with Cov Cath and Dixie not as far behind as others think.

The 9th is going to be fun to watch this year.

Too bad NCC and Brossart can't play at neutral site where fans can actually get in the game. Oh did I say that!!

Seems many forget that CovCath beat both NCC and Holmes on their home courts no less and were only a missed 7 foot jump shot from going to Rupp instead of Holmes last year.

BTW Nate Wichman has as many or more College offers than Hatton and Bolden as a Governor Scholar! More than one way to attend college free, than being able to make a jump shot!

So very proud of Wich who can not only play well on the court but is a scholar in the classroom too.

You got to get there early, or be a good friend of the BigGreenHorse. :thumb:

I need to see how the team runs with Von Handorf at the 1 and Ruthsatz at the 2 first.

I think Covcath will be very good this year....I just like Holmes, Newcath, and Dixie a little more. And to be fair, TOG, Covcath beat Newcath with Seibert going down to injury and it took a 3/4 court "prayer" to beat Holmes on their home court. Holmes still beat them 2 out of 3 times, including a double digit win at Covcath.

We shall see. Hopefully I'm wrong. Have had conversations with Coach Ruthsatz and he is a great guy and coach. Tough to root against him, regardless of which team you follow or support.

I think Regents Hall would be a great neutral site to hold that game.

Injuries are a part of the game Walter, it's the reason you have a bench and as many have said, NCC had the best starting 5...but CovCath had the better bench and one of those bench players won the game for CovCath.

Your correct again Walter but if Holmes were such a power house, how come they were in position to lose on a lucky shot at the end of the District game and were just plain lucky that a wide open seven foot jump shot that went in then went out. Power House teams just don't put themselves in position to lose a game in the last minute.

I will agree with NCC and Holmes being one and two to start the season but if anybody thinks either of those teams are heads and shoulder better than any of the other teams in the Ninth, just remember last year and CovCath.

? why would it be this way? Surely Ruthsatz will be the pg the vast majority of the time. If I'm another team in the region, I hope they take the ball out of Ruthsatz hands.

Not going to argue injuries being a part of the game. I agree. I also agree that Newcath's lack of a bench really hindered them last season. Their lack of a bench this year is the only thing from making them my preseason #1. They will once again have the best starting 5 in the region.

In terms of Holmes, I've never proclaimed them to be a "powerhouse" that will just mow down the region this year or last year. See my posts in this thread. I've stated multiple times that I think Dixie will be a problem and it will be Holmes' outside shooting that determines how far they go this season. When they hit from outside, not a better team in the region. Covcath was victim of this in Park Hills last year. Holmes didn't shoot well from outside in the next two meetings and it got them down big early. To their credit though, they were able to come back...which good teams do.

I like Dixie a little more than Covcath at the 3 spot this year...doesn't mean I think they have no shot of winning the region or playing spoiler.

Nope...Von Handorf will be running the point this year with Ruthsatz playing the 2.

Obviously Ruthsatz will be running the point at times, but VonHandorf will start at the "1."

And this is a coach/player decision...not my opinion.

Wow. That just surprises the heck out of me. I've seen both play and where I would think they would play now (and at the next level), would be the other way around. I'm sure their coach knows best. Like I said, if I'm another team in the region, I'm happy with this.

I was thinking the same....if Ruthsatz is going to play at the next level, it's as a PG..not SG.

We will see though. Couid be a good thing.

I will politely disagree with this. Ben Weyer, Mac Franzen, Josh Verkamp all 6'4" to 6'7" bring plenty of experience and height. Sophomores Jake Smith and the Anderson twins can run the floor and score, hell we might see Drew McDonalds 6'5" cousin making an appearance, freshman Trey Wurtz.

Unproven depth is a better term than lack of a bench.

Obviously they have some guys, but Weyer as a soph returns with the most experience off the bench.

Hopefully they prove me wrong. You know my relationship with the Newcath boys and know that I'm a big fan of them both on and off the court.

Agree 100%.

I will say what you have done for the NewCath hoopsters, as well as, all the other NKY schools is outstanding.

I think playing football will really help McDonald with his foot work and explosiveness. Still remember the dunk that Chames threw down on him last year off a falling out of bounds oop from Palmer....NASTY. Video on youtube of it under nkysports highlights link.

When will people accept that McDonald is one of the very beat golfers around. Why would he want to to start playing a sport he only played one year about 5 or 6 years ago and give up a sport in which he loves and excels?
