Can I tell everyone the part how the Cooper fans were saying they would roll over Ryle in the opener? :D

Please don't. LOL

Frankly, that win over Ryle last season set the table for our entire season. After that "friendly" little pre-game chat between the coaches at Barleycorn's where their moderator said to Borchers something to the effect of "You just beat NCC pretty soundly in the pre-season game last week - they must be really bad this year" - it was gonna be no holds barred. We need to maintain that feel and not get to the mindset that Ryle can't beat us anymore. Hope the boys aren't sharing their parents' attitudes.

Before anyone even thinks about implying anything about a transfer coming into Cooper, refer to the article from The Enquirer this past Sunday. The principal of Cooper says in the article that he expects 150 new students to the High school this year that are transferring from other schools. It only stands to reason that at that rate a few of those transfers will provide help to the football program. This number is up only a little from previous years as Cooper is averaging 100 new enrolled a year since opening. Though still competing as a 5A school, they are now a large 6A school in actual enrollment.

.........and the state still will not properly fund Boone Co. Schools building needs. (I know. Save it for another thread)

Hahaha

I was wondering if you need a bigger stick to stir that pot with?

On a serious note though, I always look at the ryle game since we started playing them first over the last couple years as a good litmus test to how the season will go.

Ryle still has a lot of athletes and talent on that squad and will always pose a great test.

2 years ago Ryle with Elliot put the game out of reach everytime Cooper seemed to make a move. Last year it was the opening kickoff that seemed to set the tone.

If I've learned anything in High School sports it;s that you can never tell what will happen.

I think if Cooper can protect the ball they have a good chance of winning the game. I thinkk this game will all come down to turnovers. Protect the ball and all will be fine, turn it over and Cooper could surely find themselves on the wrong end of the final score.

It's fun though, football is right around the corner!

Are you saying it is only a rumor?

I've known Coach Borchers for a long time now and he's a smart guy. He won't say a thing about a transfer, get excited about a transfer, or worry about a transfer until that kids paperwork is filled out, he's officially enrolled, and he is standing on the field in pads. Until then, he worries about what he has to work with in front of him.

I understand completely and I think that is the right way to go about it. However, it was the talk of the Cooper fans and it is my job to report on that talk.

Oh I know it is. Trust me I've heard it too and if this kid is transferring in, wow. I'm sure any coach is going to be thrilled about a kid coming into their program that is going on visits to Auburn and NC.
