I think people have in their head that McCracken is going to be some kind of superpower school. I am just not seeing it, for football. Now softball on the other hand, look out!

 

Didn't think of softball, but you could be on to something there. Now, had Lone Oak and Tilghman combined? THEN you'd have something to see on the football field and probably basketball court as well.

Superpower, no. But Haskins has built Lone Oak into a solid program and you have to believe there will be some Heath/Reidland kids that will develop further. Mix in the fact that western Kentucky 6A isn't exactly full of powerhouses and there's no reason they can't be pretty good. State champs? No. Region champs? Should annually contend.

I can agree with that, as Lone Oak I believe was beating many of the 6A schools in that region anyway. I just don't see Reidland and Heath adding much more to the mix that could get them any further at this time. Then again, sometimes it only takes 2 or 3 kids to make a huge difference on what is already solid team, and down the road 2 or 3 of those types of kids might pop up from the Reidland and or Heath area that could put them over the top, you never know.

It is. All 3 were ranked last year with Lone Oak and Reidland in the top 5. They have 20+ starters back plus 2 stud pitchers.

 

Read article this morning that the softball team has 25 staters and 32 total players back and will have to cut it to 20. So at least 5 returning starters will not make the team.

And on a football team you have 22 primary starting positions so at the 3 combined schools there were 66 starting spots that is now 44 less. This is why I hate to see consolidations of this size. Way to many kids will now not be as likely to participate

I agree. The schools consolidated were not that small. At least when Graves consolidated those were all small schools. Lone Oak had 900+ students.

But Heath was pretty darn small...and Reidland wasn't large by any stretch. But the sentiment is correct, a LOT of kids won't be playing much where they would have if the schools had stayed separate.

I actually thought Heath was quite a bit smaller than that and Reidland was larger than Heath. Whats the grade range for Heath? Was the middle school housed there as well and that overall number includes some of those kids?

Separate HS and MS. Those are HS numbers only. Heath has grown over the years and Reidland has actually went down in enrollment. It was bigger than Heath at one time.

If you go back to some old district alignments, Reidland was typically in a larger class than Heath. Perhaps changing demographics made Heath grow or maybe more Reidland kids went to Tilghman. That may explain in part why the new school was built in Heath's direction.

True. But maybe they wanted it demographically central instead of geographically central. Also, I'm not privilege to any information on land availability/cost that went into choosing the site.
