Actually, there have been a lot of Ohio teams that have done well in the national AAU tournament. In addition to those mentioned above, I know the Dayton Lady Hoopsters have a national title or two to their credit, and I think there are a lot of top 8 finishes between those organizations. Given the talent that has come out of Cincinnati the last few years (Munoz, Amber Gray, Mel Thomas, this year the nation's number one recruit, Kelsey Mitchell) that seems to make sense. In Kentucky that hasn't been the case, although I am not aware what AAU organization the Epps girl from Marion County played with... anyone know that, and how they did in the national tournament?

I'm pretty sure that Helps and some other top players in KY played with KY Premiere. Not sure of how they finished nationally.

*Epps. Darn auto correct.

How many National championship tourney's are there? Right now the 7th grade girls D1, D2, and D3 AAU National Championship tourney is going on in Cincinnati?

I know that the Louisville Focus 7th grade girls made it into the D2 sweet sixteen and play today at 2:40.

I thought that team was looking for a date with the Legacy team? I think the legacy team is in the sweet 16 of D1. Why didn't the Focus team play D1 if they felt they could compete with Legacy?

They didn't qualify to play in the D1 tourney.

I don't know if they could compete or not with the Legacy team, but I'll be rooting for both teams to represent KY!

I haven't seen Legacy play, but it sounds like they are really good.

There are several national associations for basketball. They each have their own 'nationals' tournament as well. The GBA girls nationals was in Cincinnati in June. I know the MYT and GRBA also have National competitions. As far as I can tell though, they all pale in comparison to the AAU. The AAU seems to be the only truly nationwide association. Often when rules are listed for the other association tournaments they say they go by "AAU rules".

This week in Cincinnati is the 7th grade girls AAU Nationals. In division 2 the central ky angels, the Louisville FOCUS and the lady royal diamonds (becoming the ky royals in the fall) all have made the sweet 16. The royals are from NKY. In division 1 the ky legacy elite have made the sweet 16 also. They are a NKY team as well. Congrats and good luck to all the girls teams - NKY is being represented well this year!

Yes Congrats to all the KY teams. Louisville Focus won their game and now are in the Elite 8.

Tim Barnett just tweeted that the Focus 7th grade girls just won and advanced to the AAU D2 nationals final four. They play today at 5:40 for a chance to play for a national championship.

Louisville focus playing for 3rd/4th and the ky royals diamonds are playing for 5th/6th in the 7th grade AAU national division 2 tomorrow. Great showing for ky there regardless of how things go! The ky legacy elite basically placed 11th in division 1 - outstanding - 11th in the country is pretty good I'd say.

Yes a great showing for KY.

Not exactly the finish that Legacy was hoping for. We simply could not find any consistency. Our Starting point guard returned to the court last Monday after missing eight weeks due to a broken ankle. She only had two practices with the team going into the tourney and was limited to short stints of playing time. The girls competed hard but simply were not themselves. No excuses, this is a team sport and I am sure many teams had players out due to injury. We will finish our season in an exposure event in Atlanta in two weeks. The girls then get a much deserved break before tryouts in September and another run at a national championship.

There is definitely a whole lot of talent in Ky at the seventh grade level. Good luck to all the teams going forward and way to represent Kentucky this week at nationals.

Where will the Legacy 7th graders be going to high school; any of them together?
