  8. By Terry Boehmker NKy Tribune sports reporter Niece selected for basketball exhibition game against Ky. All Stars Simon Kenton sophomore guard Ally Niece has accepted an invitation to play in a girls’ basketball exhibition game against the Kentucky All Stars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 9th at Elizabethtown High School. The Kentucky All Stars scheduled the exhibition game against some of the top underclassmen from around the state to prepare for its annual two-game summer series against the Indiana All Stars. Niece was asked to play in the exhibition because she was named 8th Region Player of the Year and Northern Kentucky Division I Player of the Year last season. She averaged 20.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game and shot 48 percent from the field for Simon Kenton. The Kentucky-Indiana All Star Series will be played June 11 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and June 12 at Bellarmine University in Louisville. Dejah McClendon of Holy Cross is on the Kentucky All Stars girls’ roster. Ben Weyer of Newport Central Catholic and Matt Wilson of Campbell County will play for the Kentucky All Stars boys’ team

By Terry Boehmker NKy Tribune sports reporter Simon Kenton sophomore guard Ally Niece was voted Division I Player of the Year by Northern Kentucky girls’ basketball coaches for the second consecutive year. Simon Kenton sophomore Ally Niece Niece is averaging a team-high 21.2 points and shooting 49.4 percent (179 of 362) from the field for the Pioneers who have a 22-5 record going into the 8th Region tournament this week. She also surpassed the 2,000-point mark in career scoring this season. The other Player of the Year awards will go to Newport Central Catholic senior guard Ansley Davenport in Division II and Bellevue senior guard Kira Ross in Division III. Davenport was the top scorer on the NewCath team that won the 9th Region All “A” Classic and made it to the semifinals of the small-school state tournament. Ross led her Bellevue team to its first Division III conference title since 1981 by averaging 13 points and nine rebounds per game. The recipients of Coach of the Year awards will be Tommy Sorrell of Bellevue and Bev Smith of Silver Grove in Division III, George Stoll of NewCath in Division II and Beau Menefee of Campbell County in Division I. The top players selected in each division will be honored during the coaches association awards banquet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 7 at Receptions in Erlanger. Winners of the Defensive Award, Miss Hustle and Academic Award in each division will also be recognized.   15. Legacy Elite moves on to the Championship with a 72-65 win over Ohio Wolves Elite. Very Very physical game agianst a very very big team. Legacy may be down another player for the championship as Mackenzie Schwarber went down early with a shoulder injury. Dont know the extent of the injury but she was on the bench in a sling and ice bag for the remainder of the game. Good luck ladies!
  16. Legacy won this morning and move on to play in the semi finals today at 5. Legacy has been without the services of Lexi Held who went down in the first game of the tournament with a sprained ankle. Good luck ladies and get well soon Lexi!

  18. Legacy beat Illinois Elite 77-54 in the quarter finals to take their record to 5 & 0 and move on to the semis tonight at 520. Good luck ladies!
  19. Legacy got off to a sluggish start and lost their opening game in pool play to SKY Starz and then went on to beat Shining Stars (Schwartz) to finish 1 and 1 in pool play. In bracket play they beat FOCUS, Shining Stars (Lay) and NKY Legends in the Championship game. This group has won 3 straight KY state D1 championships at their age level (6th, 7th and 8th) and now a championship playing competition 2 years older.
