There3 is no way that Coach Stallworth has been hired to a certified position. I spoke to him about 10 days ago and he said he will not be certified until this time next year. I would bet he has been hired to a classified position at the school. An instructional aide or something like that. He'll probably be able to do his student teaching there also.

 

Having said all of that, I hope Maze succeeds there. I also hope that the administration is patient. It's not like they are going to contend for the 12th region title in the next year or two.

 

The people on here posting about how it would be so terrible to hire him as a teacher over a certified candidate obviously don't understand that the only way that could happen is if there were no "qualified" candidates for the position. In today's job market, I guarantee that Casey County has had plenty of qualified applicants for all certified teaching positions they have open.

Casey county made a great hire. Maze is a great coach who gets the most out of his players. Look what he's done with team manimal. He has to be some kind of teacher because you can't be a head coach unless you teach at the school in some way. Casey just doesn't have the talent right now to compete in the 12th region but from what I understand they have a good freshmen class

A certified teacher has three years to complete KTIP once they begin teaching, most do it in their first year but technically they are still certified and have three years to do the KTIP program which takes one school year.

Heat Check is correct. KY allows "papa-professionals" to be head coaches at the hs level. I've checked into it and have applied for a coaching position or two myself over the years. It does require a certain amount of college level hours ( I have a bs degree so I meet that) and it also requires you to meet certain training criteria for safety concerns that ALL coaches have to do.

 

Now, some districts may have rules that require a head coach be a teacher, what Casey Co requires I don't know. But, unless not allowed by he district or specifically by the school,. then he would be allowed to coach without teaching.
