But while X is playing T once or twice a year, and Male and Manual and Bowling Green; Highlands has to play Pendleton County and Harrison County and Holmes. Those games, win or lose, are gonna kill you in a computer-generated power ranking.

 

I can definitely see your points about the division in which they play impacting a computer ranking. I disagree with the computers, but it is what it is.

If you study the link I posted, they used some formula that not only takes into account their records, state championships and opponents records, and classification size but how they against in-state opponents, out of state opponents, the top 100, top 1000, etc.

 

Then they have a rating value based on all those thing.

 

Colerain is 114-13 (0.898) over the last ten years with one state championship and most of those losses coming in the playoffs against others on the "dynasty" list (Moeller and Cincinnati St. Xavier). They are 13-0 (1.000) against Out of State (OOS) competition including several defending state champions (Cocoa Fl & Tyler Lee TX) Their opponents record is 753-625 (0.546)

 

Trinity is 126-18 (0.875) over the last ten years with 8 state championships. They are 16-10 (0.615) against OOS, including the likes of Moeller and Cincinnati St. X. Their opponents are 1060-682 (0.608)

 

Cincinnati St. X is 93-29 (0.762) over the last 10 years with 2 state championships. They are 24-7 (0.774) against OOS. Their opponents are 1076-409 (0.724).

 

Louisville St. Xavier is 114-24 (0.826) over the last 10 years with 2 state championships. They are 3-7 (0.300) against OOS playing the likes of Moeller and Cincinnati St. X. Their opponents are 1107-629 (0.638).

 

Highlands is 128-16 (0.889) over the last ten years with 7 state championships. They are 5-7 (0.417) against OOS, playing team like Colerain, Cincinnati St. X and Elder. Their opponents are 1074-689 (0.609). Highlands is listed as #36 on the list.

 

Ranking winning percentage: we have Colerain, Highlands, Trinity, Lou. St. X and Cin. St. X

Ranking OOS winning percentage: we have Colerain, Cin. St. X, Trinity, Highlands and Lou. St. X

Ranking opponents winning percentage: we have Cin. St. X, Lou. St. X, Highlands, Trinity and Colerain

Ranking number of state Championships: we have Trinity, Highlands, Lou. St. X, Cin. St. X and Colerain

 

 

Other than the size of the school and their weight of the lower classification in which they play, I see no reason that Highlands is not up with the others.

^This is all great data and makes for a compelling argument to add Highlands as a third Kentucky team, IMO.

Very good points on the victories; the division they play in means less to me.

 

There is no question who the top three football teams in Kentucky are and I think that many objective fans of football in Kentucky would argue that Highlands is no worse than number two. Highlands could have played for a state title in the highest division, they are not in that division so they haven't had the opportunity. An argument could be made that Highlands beats Manual and Male in every year if they played in the last 10 years, as well.

 

Let me end on this, I am not 100% certain that X isn't better than Highlands in the last 10 years. I still was mildly surprised by the inclusion of two Kentucky teams and that the second team was St. X.

I'll answer your question with a question- if Highlands were in 6A, do you feel St. X would be in the top 2 every year?

 

I feel that, for T, X and the Birds, the answer to this question is probably a no- in other words, none of these programs would be guaranteed top 2 every year for the last 10 years if they all had to play each other.

 

I hope that all X fans do not feel that I am bashing this program. This was NOT my intent. The more research I am doing on this, the more I feel that an argument can be made for potential inclusion of all 3 of the top Kentucky programs in a top 25.

The simply solution is for Trinity,St X & Highlands to play each other every year!!!! That way everything is decided on the field!!! I still can't believe it has yet to happen!!! Bowling Green should also play at least two of the 3 as well!!

Rankings says a lot about the quality of Greater Cincinnati high school football. But most of us knew that already.
