Featured Replies

Was able to catch up with Coach Listerman today at the Holmes Shootout...here is what he had to say:

Solid interview. Thanks Walter

Good luck to Coach Listerman and the Birds this year. They have some nice athletic kids coming back.

Birds could be better than expected this year... I liked what I saw out of the younger guys today

Thx for the video/interview Walter. Nice job. I agree with you that the Birds might be better than expected this season.

Sure does have a lot of Mike mannerisms and facial expressions.

I thought the same. Highlands will do well under him.

The kids seem to really respond well to his tactics. A lot of encouraging and when he does get down on his players, he knows how to bring them right back up.

Please tell me he doesnt run the Flex.

I thought the same thing. Was waiting for a reference or two to Coach Shields. Kevin is going to do a great job for the Bluebirds.

Please tell me he doesnt run the Flex.

Nope, not even close.

Already hearing goods things from kids that will be playing for him. They seem to really like him. Good luck to the birds!

I heard lots of criticism of Flynn running the flex. What is the issue with that?

Nothing if you have the personnel to do it and the kids are content playing a half court, slow down set that produces 50 points on a good night...I liken it to Tubby Smiths O while at KY. You can win with it if you are loaded, but most years it did not yield enough points. I realize the 2 offenses were not the same, that is just what it reminded me of when I watched it.

Listerman's show is just on a different level IMO and the kids love it and when the players buy in that is key. Also, the O will be spurred on by an intense D that will produce transiition points as well. I mean no disrespect to Coach Flynn, but it is just different and it will show on the court in December.

Talked to one of the players today at the pool and he said he is really looking forward to playing for Coach L. He said that they really only have put in one offensive set and are looking to push as much as they can. Using a lot of ball screens which were NEVER used the last 3 years. I never could understand why when you have kids that are not the best at beating their man with a great first step or excellent move that you dont use ball screens. Non-existent the last few years.
