I thought that Holtzapfel was better than Hempel. He was a heck of a safety as well as a QB.

what year?

what year?

John Holtzapfel went down to WKU in 1997 and was a very fine QB and safety at Ryle. His senior year was 1996. Eddie Smith had 2 great years at running back in the mid 90s and racked up some nice accolades. Eddie had that one 300+ yard game vs. Highlands and went on to Morehead. Travis Elliott probably had about 4500 yards in 3+ years. Conner Hempel would have been a great safety along with being a very fine and underutilized QB. Scottie Gray was a great 2-way high school player. Vince Murray has to be on the list as a 3-year starter and playing both ways for 2 years. Travis Elliott as a #2 and he was a force on defense, too. Then, toss up between Holtzapfel, Smith, Gray and Hempel for the #3.
