Why Can't Chapman Pitch Before the 9th?

Featured Replies

You need not go any further than his starters rotation.

Homer Bailey was the best Road pitcher in baseball and should have started game 1 followed by Latos in game 2 and then Cueto in the first game in cincy period. Should never have been a question about the starting order.

If you want more just fast forward to the final game of the series.

Dusty is a horrible manager period.

People are still upset that Homer didn't pitch on the road? Kind of figured that went away when he dominated game 3.

Apparently 7.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 10 K, 1 BB isn't good enough. If he was on the road his stat line would've looked like this: 465465 IP, 0 H, -8 R, 10000000 K, 0 BB.

If you would have said some of the strategies he used in that series such as the hit and run, or the Scott Rolen debacle I could have understood your point. But you had to talk about the rotation which wasnt an issue at all...

Money/agents. You start taking saves away from your closer, and there will be a rebellion.

Bingo. Closers want saves, it gives them the big bucks. Because of that managers started to use their best relievers there. Since (most) baseball managers fail to go against the grain this has become the norm. Save rule turned managers into dummies...

Will be nice to see the day when WHIP plays more of a role in contract negotiations. Managers may get their senses back then.
