You make it to the state tournament with your team, you experience something most girls you play against never get a chance to. It's a privilege to represent your high school at that level. Enjoy it and go ready to represent! You made a commitment to a group of girls in February, keep that commitment until the final out.

 

You play summer for the exposure, get that 100%; my daughter is no different. However, your summer team is filled with girls that play at your caliber...have confidence they'll win a spot to nationals while you are trying to win a state championship. Enjoy the experience and memories you make!!

Will never forget the look on Haylee's face when she found out Coach Lawson watched her pitch at her first state tournament as a 7th grader. That was merely a bonus to her just making it there!!

I agree 100%. We will play in 4 or 5 qualifiers so we will have plenty of chances to get our berth for nationals. I know if you asked Shelby she would pick going to state over a qualifier.

agree on the state vs 'anything' travel ball and I'm a travel only coach. If Shelby or Lexi are in the running for state... we'll (other players on the team not still playing) surely come to watch if not playing. And heck, just may bring all to the State finals. I'd probably be there to support any of the players anyway, love to just watch them. We've won a National championship (regional) and no one knows and I'm not bragging. Just reinforcing that those that win state or even make it to the final four live in infamy due to HS ball... is what it is and I'm so ok with it! Good luck Lexi!!! Bring it home with Biz and teammates.

Great point!! This is Male's first trip to State, and Jess is pumped!! So, nothing would please me more than having Ms. Haylee on the next field over playing Thursday night then we can all go get BBQ!!! :hungry:

AM, and then we'll be on the road to Dayton for afternoon bracket games in the Blue and Black...we are a softball family and next week has "Win-Win" written all over it for me, regardless of the game scores.

Would love to be playing on the field next to Jess! SamBoy may shed a couple tears without Jess & Haylee at Dayton but I'm sure he'll understand as will their teammates. State softball tourney hasn't taken Haylee to final four yet but the experiences she has had each time she has gone has only made her stronger mentally. Making the championship game (when most didn't think NDA would make it that far) in basketball only solidified for Haylee that anything can happen if you take the opportunities you are given and make the most out of them. So to her, making state tourney next week....could mean sky's the limit. But as Heavy said...if it doesn't, so be it.

 

Now I just wish we were going to get game in today!! ARGH!!

All kidding aside you would know. Even though we haven't been in the best situation for my kids HS sports I still love HS sports maybe not as much as travel but it's close. Every year I try to convince my self we can beat NDA in soccer or find a way to win the region in softball, of course I am wrong. So yes I would love to go to state and would probably miss just about anything for it but a good Nationals would be close. If you do go to a good Nationals you will see at least a 150 more college coaches than you will ever see at state.

 

Coach Lawson has told me before she does not go to state to recruit any kids she goes to be a representative of UK. Of course if she happens to see a kid I am sure she would. If you look at their roster now it only has 3 KY kids and only 1 really plays a lot.

Not to take anything away from you and your team but I would take a top 100 finish at ASA/USA vs winning a regional nationals, its not the same not even close. Most teams go to a regional national bc they didn't qualify for Asa/Usa or they don't think they can compete with the top teams or they just my not be willing to travel, but most good teams will travel. By anybody's standards the Louisville Sluggers are a top org not only in the midwest but in the country. They had a team win a regional national at 12U, they went to ASA/USA the next year and went 0-2 so they finished tied for last out of around a 150 teams.

 

Again I would really love to go to state but if you win state you get your name on a banner in your gym, maybe a ring, have a couple reunions. You win nationals you almost for sure would get a scholarship. Just look at Laser Gold from Ohio they go on a great run and win nationals and I bet almost every kid goes to school for about free. They won ASA/USA when a lot of the top teams had moved onto Premeir but it still payed off very nicely.
