Trinity does not cut at any level. There is attrition as kids decide not to play any longer, usually at the JV level. But they aren't cut. Some kids see the field only in cases of a running clock. Some kids never see the field.

There is, IMO, a huge benefit for both the program and player to have constant, relentless competition to keep your spot, or earn a playing time. Kids learn work ethics and the value of "bringing it" every day that translates into the way they approach their lives outside of football. The program benefits from players in the ranks always ready to step up, and players playing hard even if they are already "at the top" because they know someone on that sideline is just waiting for that chance to replace them.

Pretty much the same case at X. Some players were offered alternatives to the playing field though.

I don't know of any public schools that do, and I dang sure don't know of any rural/county schools that cut...

I believe that X and T cut - at the JV level. Everyone 'makes' the freshman team. That has been over 100 usually. But there are simply not enough slots at those programs for everyone wanting to play at JV and V level.

 

Having been at games where every kid is playing like crazy down to the very last play. You see the effort in every play when you are trying to ensure you make the next level. Unfortunately this leaves a bad feeling with the opposing team in a blow-out. But when you are fighting for 'a slot' next year every player plays every play like its the state finals. I have had to explain that more than once to new parents who couldn't understand why this was happening.

 

Maybe someone from those schools can verify this.

 

X does not cut. As is apparently the case with T, players are told of their status as to playing time and given other options to be a part of the team or program. If they choose, they can remain members of the team as players.
