Who would you rather have? Cordero or Chapman?

 

The guy that converts at a more successful rate. That's the job of a closer, to convert saves. I don't care if they turn a 3 run lead into a 1 run win, or if they go to 3 balls on every batter, or leave the bases loaded every game. Just get the job done.

That stats back that up. Just because he does it in a flashy exciting way doesn't make it better. Fact of the matter is he has a lower save % than Francisco Cordero and we ran that guy out of town.

You take a 1-2 week stretch out of the equation and he is the best closer in baseball. Cordero never made anything easy, I agree he wasnt as bad as people say he was, but he just never was a shutdown closer, he always made things harder on himself. P

Obviously, at this stage, Cordero is no longer a viable option. The Reds made the right decision to get rid of him, he's done. However, if you're going to ask me to choose the Cordero the Reds had for 4 seasons or the Chapman they've had, give me Cordero.

Just shows you're one of the easily duped fans that gets caught up in the K #s and forgets that a closers job is to finish off the game and preserve the win. Would you agree, after looking at the stats, that Cordero, not Chapman, is better at that?

Chapman is far superior in every pitching metric than Cordero. Now this sv% hogwash. Cordero was inconsistent as a pitcher, you never knew what your going to get. Chapman had one bad week, they all do it happens. Cordero always had more room to work with because he usually had a bigger lead. When he was here the Reds had a better offense. Sv% is like W/L really deceiving and doesn't tell the whole picture.

And again, something not found within the numbers, can we please get an update on Cordero since he's left the Reds. Comparing his numbers before compared to Chapman now is no different than comparing him to Goose Gossage. Let's deal with the 2 pitchers during the same span of time since that's where we are. Anyone? Cordero? Anyone?

So, you're really trying to say you don't place importance on Sv%? Closer is the easiest position in baseball to evaluate. Sv% is the only metric that has any significance at all. You either did the job you were asked to do, or you didn't. It's the most cut & dry, black & white position in baseball. Either you were successful or you weren't.

 

Ok, so if we're taking one bad week away from Chapman each year, I assume we can do that with Cordero too? I mean, these games did really occur, right? They counted, right?
