Basketball season for 2013/2014 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Boyle County? Remember, please be constructive.

Boyle County comes into the season as the defending two-time 45th District Championship. Boyle County loses Brett Jones, Devin True, Aram Martin and Lloyd Hall but they do return Micah Miniard, Hagen Tyler, Chapman Bean, Josah Robbins and Colton Elkins. I'm going to go ahead and project that as your starting lineup next year. Tristin Morrow, Keagan Hinkle and Zach Leigh will have plenty of opportunity to earn some good minutes as valuable backups and both should make strong pushes to make the starting lineup. This team has a strong junior class(Tyler, Bean, Hinkle, Leigh) and Miniard and Morrow are the only seniors that I can think of right now. Robbins and Elkins are both sophomores. With all of that in mind the immediate Boyle County goal is to become the three-time defending 45th District Champ and heading back to the 12th Region tournament.

PP, how's Danville's Boys team looking? I don't follow them much.

I think Boyle will be the favorite in the 45th district for sure. With Miniard playing at the level he was playing late last year, along with the scoring Hagen Tyler provides, the Rebels are a tough matchup. The biggest question mark will be filling in the intangibles that Brett Jones brought them. He didn't make you think he was a great player, but he could handle the ball when necessary, score when necessary, rebound when necessary, and he really seemed like a leader on the team. Boyle will need someone to slide into that role.

I believe the hope is that Josiah Robbins can fill that role. Point guard is where Boyle appears to be light at as there doesn't seem to be any 'pure' point guards but they do have plenty of guys who can score the rock, led by Hagen Tyler. I'm guessing that Josiah and Keagan Hinkle will battle for the starting point guard spot and I'd give that edge to Josiah for now. Things may change during the summer camp sessions though. Boyle has had good luck replacing point guards these last few years. Hopefully that luck stays with the team.

PP, how's Danville's Boys team looking? I don't follow them much.

 

I think they underachieved last year and they lose a lot from last year's team. They'll be very young which will be good and bad. I'll be shocked if they finish above 3rd in the district. Garrard will be better next season and they should be better than Danville so I expect Danville to finish 4th in the district next season.

Where do you expect them to be in terms of the region next year? Are they top 5 or 6? Who are?

I anticipate being the 12th Region Coordinator for BGP again next season and as of today I feel really comfortable ranking them in the top 5. Wayne County will be the no brainer #1. Boyle County, Southwestern, Mercer County, both Jessamines, Somerset all should be contenders as well. I expect Lincoln County to be better also. As of today with absolutely no research done on the 12th Region in 2013/14 I feel comfortable calling Boyle County a top 5 team in the region.

I heard that Colton Elkins is at 6'6"-6'7" now and has grown since the season ended. He's believed to stop growing when he hits 6'11".

 

I also heard that Micah Miniard may not play next year but I'll add that I'll believe it when I see it. I was told he has an offer from WKU to play baseball and may not lace them up next season on the hardwood. We'll see. If everything I am hearing about Elkins is true it may not matter but this team is obviously better with Miniard on it.

Here's my take. On paper, Southwest is the best team with Wayne right behind them. Regarding Somerset, they lost a lot, so Id be surprised to see them in the top 6. Likewise with East. They return Carson (I guess??) but not much else. But I think Lincoln is definitely in the mix given that they have everyone back except Hill.

So, I think Southwest and Wayne deserve to be at the top. I think West Jessamine, Mercer, Lincoln and Boyle should duke it out for the next 4 spots. And dont overlook Garrard next year as they could be a surprise team. I think Boyle is the biggest question mark. If Miniard doesn't play, that's big. I believe that'd leave Tyler as rhe lone returning starter. Elkins is unproven but could be a difference maker. If he performs well and Miniard plays, that size would present matchup problems for all 12th region teams.

Micah has already signed to play baseball at WKU. I have no doubt he will play next season. Colton has grown a little bit and from everything I have heard he has been dominant with the Louisville Magic 15u. Hagen has also grown some since the season ended. I wouldn't be surprised if he's up around 6'4" or 6'5" by the time next season rolls around and he keeps adding weight. Playing with the magic 16u has definitely helped him. Look for him to be one of the best players in the 12th region for the next 2 years. Wayne county will be the preseason #1 but you can't underestimate how big of a loss the Shelton kid will be. He was the glue to that team and the leader. The rest of the region will be up in the air between Boyle, southwestern, Lincoln, Mercer, west jessamine. Mercer will have a really nice team with Drew Davis returning

I dont disagree at all. Tyler has already shown the potential to be one of the top players next year, If he ends up that tall, with strength added, look out. iMiniards size is a big difference maker. Again, I just haven't seen Elkins play at a level yet that would indicate he's a major factor. That's not to say he won't as I know he has both size and potential. That unknown coupled with the question mark around guard play (point guard is major concern) is why I say Boyle is the biggest unknown. Honestly, with a good/true point, they could easily win it next year. So, could see them winning the region or coming in around 6th depending on how the above factors play out.

I agree Wayne will be ranked #1 but think it is still Southwest's to lose. Compare the talent player by player and there's no way Wayne should win that game- but SW was an underperformer last year while Wayne overachieved. They did beat Wayne in districts but were inconsistent all year.

Does anyone know if the Kossick kid is returning to West next year? He was their back up center but wasn't at region for some reason. Had he been they likely wouldve beaten Wayne as West's big sat most of the game with foul trouble. I think Kossick was better than their starter. If he returns I think West would be my preseason #3 as they have both Peters (a top player in region next year) and Henderson back along with others.

Regardless, should be exciting with the top 6 or 7 teams being very strong. And several really, really nice players representing the region for the next few years.

Now I'm excited for next season and it's May. :lol:

From what I was told, only Stearns is (plays with Magic I think). Was told Woods and Blevins don't play.
