Newport Central Catholic 2 Beechwood 1 (All "A" Regional)

Cain and Suchanek were the show. Breds score two in first and make it hold up. BW had bases loaded with 1 out in 4th but Cain struck out two in a row. Also had second and third with two outs late, but couldnt plate one.

At the plate, really only a couple stood out. Bartels had a couple hits, one that hit the top of the fence and came back. BW turned that into an out, and a great relay from left to SS threw out a kid at plate. Bartels also came in to pitch last inning or two, and shut down Tigers For BW, Stringer had two hits, single and double, and flew out to base of wall in left. Frosh continue to lead the Tigers, by my count they had four of the 6 hits. . Slusher had the only RBI on a single, and Combs also had a hit.

Both pitchers pitched well. Suchanek went the distance again. He probably has 5 MPH more on his fastball than Cain. BW needs to hit better. No production in the bottom of their order.

It's not often you see a game end on a pickoff play.

... while the player is taking a sign. That's what it said in the news article.

Last time I checked Combs had 32% of Beechwood's RBI's, great play by the freshmen, but BW needs more production for sure.

Getting tired of hearing about the BW Frosh. Yes, they are good. But this team would not be anything without players from the Sophmore, Junior, and Senior class too. Its not a one man show. Suchanek has hit amazing, fielding amazing, and pitched amazing. Bertke and Schmidt have done well behind the plate. Parker has faired well for himself. Booth has a better glove than most of the 9th. Randolph has pitched very good for the tigers. Yes, the frosh are good, but there are other people being over looked.

Sorry to disagree and first off congrats to NCC.

For Beechwood-Suchanek, a Junior has been solid as you have said, but now 3 starters are frosh in Stringer, Combs and Slusher. All three have done very well for Freshman.

Randolph and Schumann have pitched well for Beechwood. The Tigers simply have to hit better. To say Parker has faired well? How? He has been out of town. The rest of the group must hit for the Tigers to advance to the Region. Watching the Freshman and Suchanek do it all at the plate will not work. I will say #17 is hitting better for Beechwood now-Hamilton?

Heard the Beechwood pitchers grandma had a heart attack and died in the parking lot after the game. Anyone confirm that. Truly tragic if that is the case.

Sorry to disagree and first off congrats to NCC.

Don't get me wrong, this freshman class is phenomenal, but i'm just saying people are being left out and not getting credit. Randolph has been one of Beechwoods best pitchers but i can count on one hand the amount of times people give him credit. Parker has been out of town, but while here he has done well, i guess doesn't deserve any credit when you miss 10 games though. Schumann has pitched well but he is also barely talked about. The frosh are a big part of this team, but there are other players that do well.

And on the hitting note, you are right. Tigers haven't hit well. But if Combs goes 1-4 he is talked about. If Stoekle goes 2-4, nobody seems to care. I love watching these frosh, but i want to see credit given to everyone that contributes.

This is a game thread specific to the New Cath game, not a synopsis of the season. Suchanek has been identified as one of the stars of it. The others? Something you would like to discuss about their performance in this game?

I really think you and I are in agreement. The pitchers have pitched well. Schumann against Conner was especially strong. You and I both have noticed and commended Randolph and Schumann.

I agree too that they all will have to contribute to advance to the region. I think the Freshman are talked about that much because they are that good. Trust me I am rooting for Bertke and Stoekle and Grant too because they are Seniors.

Yes you are right, seems we are supporting the same topics.

I think you are spot on Baseballin803. Suchanek had a tough 1st inning and wasn't helped by his defense. Not errors per se. Obviously he got picked off to end the game. It happens. Combs struck out once in a tough spot, but hey, the pitchers win some battles too. NCC is tough and that is why they won.

The fellows that I remember reaching base were Suchanek, Stringer, Combs and Slusher. 3 Freshman and a Junior. The others guys have to get on to make Coach Mullins job easier.
