Who's the best in NKY right now?

I can tell you this about the Breds, Coach Schulkens does not give a damn about his regular season record, his focus is about what his team accomplishes in the end.

The 1st game of the season that really matters.......game one of the district tourney.

One thing to remember my friend, NCC is not in one of the tougher District in the Region. For them to get to the Region compared to Boone, Ryle, Conner and Cooper or even Beechwood, Holy Cross or CovCath is a cake walk over the course of the last few years! While the teams I mentioned have to claw and fight to even get to the Region NCC just breezes through the District without as much as a sweat gland getting a work out!

On paper I would agree, however when the games are played anything can happen. Plus with no seeding (until this year) sometimes the two best teams draw into the same half of the bracket and play right out of the gate, instead of being in opposite brackets.

Sometimes a team will sneak up on you also. I remember my senior year (1984), we were 17-4 going into the district tourney and didn't get the job done in district semi's against Bellevue and lost 5-3. To this day I still hear it from the guys I went to grade school with that played for Bellevue.

Just saying NewCath is starting to play good baseball and so is Highlands. NewCath and Highlands have a lot of kids back from last year and until someone beats Newcath in the 9th region tourney I will consider them as my #1 or #2 and by the way Newcath smoked Beechwood and you have them # 3

That 4-1 win by NCC over Beechwood was a lot like that 13-3 loss NCC had to CCH?

I agree with you on NCC and Highlands - they will be there as the year progresses. Based on what has happened so far, NCC's record is not as good as CCH's. I was following the thread title in my posts - Who's the best in N. Ky. right now?

What's your point?

If I understand you correctly, your statement would lead one to believe NCC would be an easy first round exist once the regionals roll around. How does NCC continue to win the region over the heavy favorites like CovCath?

So here is a question for you and please give me your honest answer!

Do you think NCC would want to switch to another District?

How about to one of the districts that I mention?

My guess is any one of the Schools I mentioned above would love to switch Districts with NCC and not have to work so hard to get into the Region!

I don't believe that is what he's saying at all. You might want to re-read his post. That district 1 through whatever isn't as tough as the 2 districts he's mentioning. Not quite sure where your getting that feel from that post as far as being an easy out.

I guess I would ask this question...I think TOG eluded to it........

Are we talking about 1 game, or a series where it takes 2 or 3 starting pitchers to get through?

If one game.......Maines for Connor, Dunn for Cooper, could beat anyone if they are on.

CCH ....i would list Ward/Heppler/Davis/Schreiver as 4 who could have the same impact.....

NCC....saw Cain and Bartels. Cain impressed/ Bartels may have been off.

BB saw early but they don't seem to have the same pitching talent and you can pitch around Norton.

Ryle...know a little about them....they have the pitching to run over a few games.

Haven't seen too many others in NKY so can't realy rank them......

SO......parity over a one game and out situation.......Ryle, Connor (Maines), Cooper (Dunn), CCH,

Over a two or three game:

CCH/Ryle

Connor

Haven't seen the others so I can't rank them, but IMO...NCC is above BB but not sure if they are above or below BW, Dixie, but i would put NCC even with Cooper but BB below both

IMO......

Great question.

I agree, if you are talking 1 game I'd have to think there isn't anyone better than Dunn when he's on and Coop[er has enough talent to win with Dunn on the mound no matter who they are playing when he's on. In a 3 - 4 game series in 2-3 days, then I don't know of any team in the 9th that can hang with either Ryle or Conner. I think in NKY you can toss BW, Conner, Ryle in a hat for a 3 game series and take your pick

Who has Dunn pitched against this year and what were the results?

How often is Dunn "on" compared to "off"?

How often is Dunn "on" compared to "off"?

He's only pitched 3 times so far. 2 he was basically UN hit table, the other he had trouble finding the strike zone.

Who has Dunn pitched against this year and what were the results?

St Henry was first game of the year, o ly pitched 2 innings due to coach wanted 2 innings per pitcher due to being early, he faced minimum 6 batters, no hits or walks.

2nd game was HC and none of the pitchers faired well finding strike zone and several errors behind them, no earned runs (or possibly 1, can't remember if any of the runs scored when he was on the mound were actually earned, but I don't think so) given up in that one though.

3rd game was CCH, Another win, went 5 complete innings 2 hits no earned runs.

Let's clear some things up about Dunn. I follow him closely and I'm not saying he is or isn't one of the better pitchers in the region.

Game 1 - St. Henry (Hellbird) is correct. First Inning 2 K's and GO. Second Inning K (got away) runner on 1b, next batter FC 2nd and next batter 4-6-3 DP end of inning. 3 K's, 0 BB, 0 ER

Game 2 - Holy Cross - First Inning 2 ER, Second Inning 0 ER, Third Inning was pulled after 3 1/3. Defense got pretty rough. Mechanically he was off and velocity down, but 2 or 3 ER and 0 BB I can't say that he really had trouble finding the zone more like he was finding the HC bats.

Game 3 - CCH 5 Innings 3K's, 1 BB and 1HBP with 0-1 ER. I put the run on him in my book.

You can make your own decisions from there when he's on or not. Not sure on K's since I don't know what it was against HC, but I know he has had 1 bb and 1 HBP thus far this season through 10 1/3 Innings.

You're right about the SH game, I couldn't remember though when the errors came into play, not sure if there was a ER or not. When I said he had trouble finding the strike zone, it was a bit unfair, I was saying for him and what I've seen him do already this year it was to me considered hard finding the strike zone....for other pitchers it would of been considered a pretty good outing, but for Dunn to fall behind in the counts as he did in the SH game to me seemed like an off game for Dunn.....Now remember an off day for Dunn is a pretty darn good day for many others. so it may have been unfair when I compared his off day to what he usually does and a different set of standards to what I give other pitchers. So Big Cat is correct.

Either way, I still haven't seen a more dominating pitcher this year yet, and granted I haven't seen them all by no means, but out of the ones I've seen, he has been the best when he is on his game.
