Let's just say Mr. Maines likes to express himself-verbally-when things do not go his way. It happened vs both Beechwood and Lasalle and resulted in a benching both games from Coach Arlo.

So it sounds to me like the Coach is doing what they can to manage the kid. Wish all coaches benched kids for this kind of behavior. It is definitely part of their job. Unfortunately, all to often, the punishment depends on the amount of talent a kid has or how much influence their parents have.

I agree 110% with this statement. I commend the coach for doing what he did. I remember a summerball game last year, I won't say what team this player played for or the player himself, but a certain player grounded out to ss and as he crossed first base after being thrown out dropped the "F" bomb, and not under his breath, he screamed it and as he was going back to the dugout he was walking past the bleachers where an elderly lady said something like "You shouldn't curse like that young man" where he replied to the lady "STFU" and instead of benching the player the coach instead after the inning as he was coming off the field from coaching 1st base told the lady to keep her mouth shut and don't talk to his players.

We were surprised first off that none of the umpires did anything, but then for the coach not to say anything to the player much less sit him on the bench was more shocking than what the player himself did. But when you allow that kind of attitude tto go on then I blame the coach more than the player for allowing it.

Kudos to Conner's Coach.

Sorry. Should have clarified was referring to Badin quote.

Gotcha. No sweat. You are 100% correct.

Kid has already wasted a golden opportunity to help Conner basketball. I hope he dials it down.

Hats off to the Conner coach for reeling in his player.

I heard another player curse loudly (twice) but he was not removed from the game. Not sure why there's a difference in how that one was handled.

This is almost always a situation where the player in question is coached by his father. 99% of coaches wouldn't tolerate that stuff.

A positive note, the coach has everyone's support across the district on eliminating a problem most have witnessed affecting the game we all love. He seems to be on the right track, but disciplining one player and not another for the same infraction is definitely sending mixed signals. Arlo won't let a few players refusing to follow simple team rules affect how his era of coaching is perceived. I'm sure he is ready to get back to the business of developing the character of young men who by nature, are willing to sacrifice for the betterment of the team.

Past history or how a player handles being corrected by the coach, maybe.

He has been that way since knothole ball will never change
