Glad they finally got one. Good luck to Mr. Schmidt!! I know there are a group of middle school kids who are anxious to get developed for the HS which couldn't be done until they named the coach.

It's my sincere hope this HC surrounds himself with a good staff of knowledgeable "role models" to instill hope, team building, and work ethic in Newport youth. Congrats Coach Schmidt and wish you well!

Obviously a big task ahead for Coach Schmidt but I wish him nothing but the best!!

Hello, is this thing on? Can someone give us ANY info on this coach? Is there anyone from Newport on this board?

Or anyone from Newport who cares about Football?

I've hit the Google machine but I can't find anything on the guy.

I heard he is Manti Teo's girlfriends brother

Rick Broering tells me we misspelled his name.

It's Matt Schmitz. OC at Clinton High School in TN.

Looks like he did some college coaching as well at TennTech. Graduated high school in 1999.

I found a Matt Schmitz in Tennesee. Played QB at Austin Peay and coached at Tennessee Tech. Could that be him?
