Ky. Sen. Rand Paul et al. Filibustering CIA Confirmation Right Now

Featured Replies

Sen. Rand Paul and -- thus far -- three other senators are in the middle of a filibuster over the confirmation of John Brennan as the new CIA director, specifically regarding questions over the drone program organized by the agency. Paul has said he wants much most strict clarification of what he considers the administration's murky rules on whether these strikes can be used against American citizens.

You can watch it live on C-SPAN now. Link

The filibuster began at 11:37 am; it is 4:06 pm as I type this.

I clicked over by the time Wyden made it to the floor. Did Cruz give a speech about the Alamo somewhere along the line?

I didn't know it was going on until right before I posted it. Was reading through some news right after the PRP-Holmes game ended.

I see. I saw some twitter buzz about Cruz speaking about the Alamo. I don't know if that was part of the filibuster or what, so I was curious.

I like this. The administration's answers on drones are shamefully ambiguous.

He just name-dropped Louisville... in reference to blowing somebody up with a drone strike while they're outside at a restaurant.

That's a thought that's going to linger during Fake St. Patrick's Day this weekend.

Not sure what Cruz was saying about the Alamo, but a senator can talk about anything when filibustering.

Once a senator read from the DC phone book.

I like that they are actually filibustering instead of hiding behind cloture too.

Sen. Marco Rubio now speaking.

We're about five hours into this thing and Rand Paul has already yielded to questions from the following senators:

Mike Lee (R-Utah)

Ted Cruz (R-Texas)

Jerry Moran (R-Kansas)

Ron Wyden (D-Oregon)

Marco Rubio (R-Florida)

Alamo came up because Ted Cruz referenced Rand Paul being from Texas and the anniversary of the Alamo, being today or yesterday, and quoted someone from the Alamo comparing it to Rand Paul standing up for liberty.

^ I'm not willing to say that this administration has been worse than any other, even if it may be.

I know that I don't care for Harry Reid trying to end debate right now.

Looks like he succeeded.

I liked Rand Paul's response. Does anyone think his request is that crazy? He is just asking in for a written response that the Gov't can't kill and American citizen not in combat.
