Ballard 2013

Featured Replies

What does Ballard need to do to improve in 2013? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

The Bruins will probably get two shots at St.X and then play Trinity in round three. Ballard lost some talent but should fare very well vs Fern Creek, Oldham County, and Eastern. Their schedule should serve them well in preparation for the playoffs in 2013.

Bruins may be flying under the radar. This could be an exciting team.

My bet is they'll have their kids geeked to prove they can beat a Louisville 6A team (was always great motivation for our kids at Oldham).

Coach, where do you see your team next year? What are your goals? Last year, when the playoffs started I expected to see you in the finals. Is that a realistic goal for this year?

Speaking of OC. My son played against you guys when he was at CCH. Tell me the name of your really good RB who would have graduated in about 2004 or 2005. Where did he end up and what's up to today?

We have an extremely 'bought-in' group of seniors returning (unfortunately, isn't always the case in Jeff. Co. public schools), so I'm more optimistic than in certain previous years when maybe the talent was there, but I knew going in the 'intangibles' weren't. As a coach, you can affect that kind of thing to some extent, but it takes someone better than me to completely overcome it.

Now the tough news: we match up with the 'super-district' for the first 3 rounds of the playoffs (which is part of why we tried to schedule all of them in the regular season). They'll all be tough next year and though we've been competitive with them (within 1pt of beating X, within a TD of Trinity a few years ago, an even record w/ Male, winning record vs. Manual), it was with a different group of kids than we currently have. A lot will come down to us convincing our guys we belong with them (we'll see).

Even if we get that done, we'd likely have to make it through THREE of them in 3 consecutive rounds. Not saying that can't be done, but we'll have to do a great job as coaches and players to accomplish that.

That being said, we REALLY like the group we've got coming back. I can already tell this will be a group we'll enjoy coaching, win or lose.

This senior class is loaded with good leadership and good character young men. These guys enjoy each others company, they work hard collectively, they have great admiration for their coaches and their school, and they are unselfish. These are just a few pieces of the puzzle that Championship teams require. You have to throw in some talent and a few other things but this group seems to have a special kind of chemistry. There are never any guarantees, but without this chemistry, championships are few and far between. With that said, if you are planning a visit, there is a lot of construction right now on the road to Bowling Green.
