A legend's time has ended at CCH.

 

Mr Jack Kaelin has kept book for CCH for 50 years which is also how long he's taught.

 

With tonight's loss in the 9th region finals his book keeping has come to an end.

 

Jack is on the CCH Mt Rushmore.

I'm sure he has plenty of stories he could tell. I bet it will be very odd at first when that ball is tipped next season.

You're sure? I asked Mr. Hertsenberg about that at the game on Saturday and he said Herr Kaelin was planning on continuing on the book for the basketball team.

Maybe he's just retiring from teaching.

 

Regardless, I couldn't pass up a chance to recognize Jack.

"Jack Kaelin is retiring after 50 years of service to Covington Catholic High School. A celebration in his honor is planned for 7-10 p.m. May 3 in the school gym. The public is invited.

 

Kaelin began his career at Covington Catholic in 1963. During the course of the last half century, Kaelin has served this school in many capacities – as athletic director, head cross country coach, head track coach, bowling team coach, alumni director, and, most importantly, as a teacher in the disciplines of business and German.

 

In his own words, his goals every year as a teacher have been “to touch every one of my student’s lives and for them to know that I care about them and their futures.” He has fulfilled these goals teaching in some cases three generations of Colonels – sons, fathers, and grandfathers.

 

During his extensive career in education, he has earned inclusion into the Covington Catholic Hall of Fame, the Newport Catholic Hall of Fame, the Northern Kentucky Coaches Hall of Fame and the state of Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame.

 

He has been a member of many educational associations and boards including the American Association of Teachers of German and the Junior Achievement Board, and he has garnered many prestigious honors such as the Golden Apple award and just this year, the Thomas More College Diocesan Excellence in Teaching Award.

 

To honor Kaelin, the Jack Kaelin Scholarship Fund has been created at Covington Catholic to provide tuition assistance. A gift fund for Kaelin also has been established. If you drove past CCH last night and wondered if there was a big game going on due to the crowd, no, it was Jack's retirement party. Parking lot was overflowing.
