Somerset advances to the finals and will face Wayne County tomorrow night at 7pm.

 

Congrats to the Briar Jumpers for moving on and congrats to Mercer County on a fine season.

Now the question is, can Wayne County stop Somerset's "bigs". They weren't able to for most of the game last time and when they did Dishman lit them up. Wayne is small & scrappy, but not sure they can handle the Jumpers.

Mercer was ice cold tonight, particularly on threes and FT's. No way we can beat a team with that size shooting that poorly. That said, Somerset has all of the tools to win the next one as well - size, athleticism and shooting. Congrats to the Jumpers and good luck tomorrow night!

Mercer just couldn't hit a shot when they needed to. They kept the game within about 7-10 points all night, but every time it seemed like they had a run in them, they would miss and Somerset would score. Somerset's size really seemed to wear on Mercer as the game went along. The size didn't dominate the game, but the Mercer kids seemed spent late, and you could tell they were worn out by the lack of legs in their free throws and jump shots.

Great defensive game by the Jumpers. Hopefully they have one more left in them. This will be the first regional final appearance for the Briar Jumpers since 1989.

I was a part of that Somerset team. Wayne beats us in overtime and goes on to be State Runner-up. We were crushed. Its been 24 years and SHS finally gets a chance at redemption. Go Jumpers!!!

Do you have the score to that game. That was the year after I graduated and SHS Future (who was on the team) and I were talking about it and he thought it was 65-60 in OT. I couldn't remember. I remember Somerset had the ball at the end of regulation and one of the guards went up for a 10 footer for the win and changed his mind in mid-shot and instead tried to dump it down low but the center had already started turning towards the goal and the ball went out of bounds.

The final score in that 1989 game was Wayne County 66, Somerset 64.

I agree good Def. Game. Nice to see Somerset back in Finals. One to go and it's been a Story Book Year. Great year either way. Go Jumpers.
