Augusta 46 Bracken County 43

Featured Replies

Great game plan by the Polar Bears. Augusta never seemed to completely solve the Polar Bear D, particularly as it relates to Brent Bach. Grant Crawford checked him all night long & held him to 6 points. If there was a Player of the Game award, I would give it to Grant oCrawford, even in the losing effort.

Of course, the Panthers won this game. Connor Maddox was huge in this one just as he was against Mason County. He didn't shoot it as well, but he hit the big 3 to give Augusta a 42-40 lead with under 30 seconds to play. If the District gave a tournament MVP, my vote would probably go to Maddox.

As great as Bracken game-planned, I think Hinson made a nice adjustment by upping the pressure to start the 2nd half. Bracken had several turnovers--on consecutive occasions & about three times by the same player--and that enabled Augusta to cut into the deficit.

Very fun game to watch & I believe better than the Augusta/Mason County game. Big, loud, & excitable crowd made it that much better. The kids on both sides played so hard. Great night of basketball. Great tournament overall. :thumb:

Panthers edge Polar Bears for first district since '82

Very impressive defensive effort by Grant Crawford, was Bach's shadow all night!

Love the defensive effort of players. Believe they don't get enough credit.

Persinger's phone will be ringing off the hook this morning.

There are seven schools I can think of that will be wanting a copy of that tape.

Congratulations to Coach Hinson and the Augusta Panthers on a district title and to Coach Persinger and the Polar Bears on an outstanding effort!

Wish both programs the best of luck in the regional tourney!

No disrespect to the other teams in the district, but I am a little biased, so thanks to the Panthers and Polar Bears for ensuring that the title trophy was going to be headed west out of Maysville this year!

Grant has done a great job defending Bach in all 4 games this season. Foul trouble has hurt him in parts of some of those games, but his defense on Bach has been top notch

While Bach did some other nice things in place of scoring, he was still on the bench a bit with foul trouble. The same can be said of Kelsch. They both certainly impacted the game, but not as much as usual. It seems like the Panthers were able to get this victory while obviously not playing their best game. Perhaps that's a good sign for Augusta. Bracken County was able to disrupt Augusta's flow and played a tough game.

Impressed that Bach didn't try to force any action. He had opportunities to do so & I can't remember a time when he forced anything.

Agree on Bracken disrupting Augusta's flow. They dictated the game's pace & for the most part, showed great patience on the offensive end.

I also came away very impressed with the maturity & composure of Augusta's freshmen. Those kids can play.

Still can't get over the atmosphere. While I expected a large crowd, I didn't expect that large of a crowd. I liken the atmosphere to that of a 10th Region Tournament semi-final. It was crazy loud in The Fieldhouse.

Looking forward to pulling for both of these squad's next week.

I don't think with Montgomery's dominance that any game in any round in next week's regional tournament will match last night's atmosphere and crowd for that matter

Kept thinking the same thing, especially against Mason Co. Have told several people that from a maturity and composure standpoint, you couldn't have picked out the freshman on the floor, if you didn't already know who they were.

Agreed.

You could very well be right on that.

I look for Augusta to bring a really good crowd next week. And I think if Bracken & Harrison can draw each other, that would be a pretty good crowd as well. I don't really know what kind of crowd support the other participants will have, but I'm hoping there are good turnouts at each session.

100% agree.
