February 18, 201313 yr Without a doubt the abundant welfare programs have increased poverty in the US. What is the incentive to work if you can only find minimum wage jobs? The government will make sure you're provided for. There is nothing wrong with needing assistance and going on one of these programs but people are proudly exploiting the system. For every family who truly needs and appreciates the assistance there are two or three others who are simply too lazy to work.
February 18, 201313 yr I believe that is the county Sheriff famous for his immigration position??? I don't believe he incarcerates felons. I just want to hear what the plan is from conservatives when the social support plug is pulled. Something rational and logical that shows some reasoning ability?? Bumper sticker slogans do not count as a plan. Moving people from one social support system (Welfare, Early Education/ Pell Grants etc) to another, more expensive support system (criminal) does not result in any benefit to society. Ah the famous push back against welfare reform its more costly to reform than to just keep things the same. Never mind this entire post is based on a false assumption that a majority of people would turn to crime instead of finally helping themselves. But lets say we live in an alternate universe where your statement is actually true. I would still rather pay tax money to enforce laws than allow generational welfare.

February 18, 201313 yr I think many on welfare need to be helped out, and I mean helped out of welfare. They should have to work and train while on welfare...how about free labor to qualifying employers. Or work for the government picking up trash...whatever gets them off the sofa. Eventually, if they have to work, then they may actually get ambitious and try to better themselves. For the mamas, I believe we are better off putting their children in sponsored daycare and putting them to work also. Then, reduce the financial incentive to have additional children...offer birth control, sterilization if they want it as well. We are not, and should not fix the problem over night, but we can reverse the trend!
