Garrett. She is a sophomore. They sould be fine.

Porky where does her older sister Brooke play for them? She should be on that list of underrated players in the area.

I agree. She is a catcher and is a very nice player.

Didnt Highlands have a couple pretty good pitcher returning (Hamburg & Leighty) from last year! Two years ago that Hamburg girl was pretty good but heard she had a bunch of injuries and the Leighty girl had a ton of potential they didnt play any D behind her last year! If the rumor mill is true and the Spencer girl plays for highlands they could have 3 solid pitchers. That is if the Hamburg girl is healthy if not they still should have 2 solid pitchers in Leighty and Spencer! Its almost impossible to do it with one pitcher unless your that girl from Newport and play a soft schedule like Newport!

Four King Crazy-look I have no affiliation with Newport whatsoever, but their pitcher is good, and you can say they played a soft schedule, but they are in your district (36) and they went to the Region last year and you didn't. So they could say the same things-they had no defense behind their pitcher, etc, but again Highlands has a long way to go (and I think they are headed in the right direction) before they can start calling out others schedule. They ain't that good yet.

Looks like to me in the past at least that pretty much everyone's schedule is about the same. Most teams out side of Ryle and Connor usually don't step out of the NKY area to play. Thats a bad thing but sure seems that way. Maybe no wonder Ryle and Connor meet in the region finals every year.

yes, playing a strong schedule helps the team and makes them more prepared for tough games at the end of the season.

Who are the backup pitchers for Ryle, Boone & Conner?

Good question. I would guess for Conner it would be Roark. I believe she was their JV pitcher last year. Have no idea for Ryle or Boone though. Additionally does anyone know who will be the starting pitcher and back up for SK this year?

Biggest question for SK is going to be pitcher. Lang threw some last year but has had some arm injuries in the past and no one know if she will pitch. They return 5 starters but if they cannot find someone to take the mound it will be rough. This is uncharted territory for SK. Having the Morgan's for the past 6+ years was a huge luxury.

Thanks, I agree with your assessment and knowing that they will no longer have the luxury of having a Morgan as a pitcher is why I asked.

The newport pitcher is great. but not much behind her. But c'mon, you're smarter than that. They went to region because the 36th didn't seed and HHS and NCC played each other in the first round! No seeding this year!!!!! yay!

And to say highlands isn't good this year, you lose your street cred. highlands will be good. possibly very good. Look at their schedule. No, they are not traveling too much, but take a look at who they play. The are not running from anyone. The new coach's philosophy is to play the toughest available around you and fill in with the rest. They are playing all the big dogs twice each this year. The first calls were to Conner (3 games against them), Ryle, Boone, ND, St Henry, Dixie (3 games against them), NCC. They also play Brossart, SK, Tates Creek, Nicholas Co, Boyd Co and Garrett Co out of region. I don't think that's too bad for a coach that is just getting his feet wet and has a young team with no seniors. He is challenging the girls and they will be tested come tourney time. can't wait to watch the birds this year........

I didn't criticize highlands at all and do believe they are on the right path....I just felt it was an unnecessary shot at Newport from a previous poster and their efforts-that's all. Good luck to the Bluebirds in 2013 and beyond.

Man remind me to not say anything about HHS, I would hate to lose my street cred! I agree with History here, HHS has not been very good, will they be better this year I would guess so but the facts are they haven't been. Their schedule is fine but you have to beat the Boone County schools a couple times and maybe beat Miss Smith at NDA to be consider good. Win a couple of games against the top teams and we will come back and say you guys are good. I love what HHS is doing but you have to earn your respect first before declaring that you are good.

And while we are talking about "street cred" are you sure Newports pitcher is great? (I have never seen her) I would consider Kirsten Allen from Ryle several years ago great, I am not sure we have had many real good pitchers since much less great.

Depends on what ur definition if great is. If i throw out the word "elite" does that help downgrade what you think "great" means. If "great" is at the top of ur descriptors, then no she is not great. But if "great" is used in a term to mean a very good 9th region pitcher, than yea, she's great. It's just a descriptive word that I used to agree with him.

So the next time you say "man, she is a great kid" ....is she really "GREAT!"? Or just a very good kid?? C'mon dude! Don't get all technical on me!!!

Boone has a couple young pitchers. Jackson-as last season progressed pitched the majority of the JV games as a 6th grader with good success. She currently plays travel with the Cincy Static 00-Morris team.

You also have 8th grader Grau who is a nice left-handed pitcher who had a good season last year. I believe she is still playing travel with the Mason Thunder 99.
