He stopped at mid court and threatened another technical. The guy was clearly out to get Hicks. Not sure what the history between the two is. If I were him, I would have sprinted to the locker room to keep it professional. This all started from the beginning of the game with just terrible calls. I mean outlandish calls.

He had a good game. Started off strong with a nice dunk over a Conner kid. Ended up tweaking his hamstring I would guess. He probably was playing at 90 percent. Ended with 14 pts. 11 boards

 

You make it sound like he came in like Griffin and crammed one over someone. It was on a break away basket and not "over" anyone. Wow, people see things so differently.

That referee did plenty to embarrass himself. He was flat out awful.

Jackson had 13.

 

Barker had 17.

 

Conner missed 6 straight FTs in the 4th qtr.

He said something back and then went down the handshake line. Now I don't know who said what first or what was actually said.

 

Both of these coaches were giving the officials a good deal of talk and I thought both were very close to getting technicals. I thought the way Hicks got his was a little fishy. The ref ran past him, and from my angle said something to him. I did not see Hicks body language change or him raise his voice. It did look like he said something but he wasn't looking at the official or in even in his direction. Next thing we hear is the whistle and the T. Hicks asked several times what he said and the officials would not answer. I have seen that official ref several games and he seems to have a little edge to him. I think this is one of those games where it just got away from the refs and they couldn't get it back under control.

Yes. Told him he could still T him up once again even though the game was over.

Congrats to Scott on the win. Both teams played hard. The officiating was a joke. Let me be clear, it was horrendous both ways. That said, I've probably been to 2000 basketball games in my life and I have NEVER seen one official have such a clear agenda to show up a coach like the one official did to Coach Hicks last night. Phantom calls, no calls, instigating and belittling all night long. The other comments were dead on regarding the post game incident. Hicks mumbled something to the effect "worst I've ever seen" to the official as the players/coaches were shaking hands. Instead of being a professional and sprinting to the locker room (especially after that debacle) he decides to walk back and confront Hicks and tell him he can still T him up. IMO an official should do everything they can to diffuse a heated situation, not incite it as was the case last night.

Sound a little unprofessional on both ends. If it was equally bad for both teams then Hicks should have done the same as the official... sprinted to the locker room and corralled his team.

 

That being said, a little more understandable (I guess) that a coach say something after a bad game/loss, but its always been my understanding that the official is always supposed to take the high road, as hard as it may be.

He is correct. The officials authority does not end at 0:00. It ends when they can no longer see the court.

 

It's WHY every official should exit the floor as soon as the clock hits 0:00 and they see that no one at the scorer's table is saying there's a problem. Waiting only sets up problems.

I know of two instances where one of the officials called a foul but gave it to a kid that was no where near the play. I mean somewhere like 15' away. A tremendous amount of phantom fouls in the 4th quarter. Literally no contact just simply a kid dribbling up the floor and the official would call a foul. All of the kids were throwing their palms up and somewhat laughing. It really degraded to that point. I would really love for the KHSAA or regional head official to borrow and watch the game film of this game. There would be some serious explaining to do.

 

Awful game to watch. Every trip resulted in a foul and free throws. I'm not sure what Scott shot from the charity stripe but if they hit any free throws the game is easily over mid-way thru the 4th. I give both teams credit for trying to play thru the officiating. It was a battle of strong wills in the 4th quarter. I would like to think there is a lesson in here somewhere for the kids but I'm a little at a loss of trying to spin this one.
